Investors are often looking for tips on companies that are succesfull because of changes in style and taste. That businesses are under the influence of trends - and how - is something that i docment in my new book Anatomy of a Trend. It is a book investors and others who want to know the inner workings of trends?One of the points that I make in the book is that there are actually predictable patterns behind every trend. With the book I want the reader to be able to recognize an emerging trend and evaluate it. I hope this insight will make investors better at predicting which stocks to pick because they themselves can evaluate if a industry trend represents a major change in the industry’s market. The book has just been published by McGraw-Hill.
My book is based on analysis of past lifestyle trends, and again and again the same patterns were at work in these trends. I destill the patterns (with all the documentatation). The pattern was typical of trends up to the publishing of the book (now). If society has not changed since it is likely that the same pattern will be at work in trends that are going on now and in the near future. Of course, if society changes dramatically this pattern will also change. But the pattern that I describe has been in existence for several hundred years (as I also document in the book with examples).
