I live in an area where many, many of the surrounding areas are historical in many, many ways. As the area grows, we are seeing more and more debate about the movement of progress versus the preservation of history. It is sad to see things come down to this, but our area is growing at such a fast pace that sometimes it seems there is little else the communities can do...
What are your thoughts about destroying history for the sake of convenience and growth? Shouldn't all other avenues be explored? That is just my opinion, but I would love to see what others think....

Along withthat, I think that all large open mall type stores should have to find a new tenant before they can bulldoze a new site or turn the old site into a garden with trees and walking trails. Won;t belong before EVERYTHING is a parking lot and they will charge $1.50 for you look at the trees (thanx Joni).
Unfortunately, transportation issues force our regional planners to increase the number of highways and throughways, so somethings gotta give. In our case, some historical buildings have been relocated. But some have just not been worth the money or effort to relocate due to the poor structural integrity of the building. In these cases, I can understand not trying to renovate or relocate.
