Graveyard Photo Scavenger Hunt- Statues

I didn't have a lot of luck finding any statues at the first graveyard I visited, but I enjoyed the trip nonetheless.  You can read all about my trip to the Buena Vista Cemetery here.

At the Algonquin Cememtery though, I did happen upon a couple statues to snap pictures of for this weeks scavenger hunt. 

In the newer section of the cemetery I found two angels on the same marker.  One is holding a bird and the other is praying. 

 

My favorite statue though was a lamb that we found on the marker of a child.  It is an older statue in the oldest part of the cemetery that was established at the same time the town was.  Because of its age it almost doesn't look like a lamb anymore, but a seal.

Nice. A lot of cemeteries don't put statues up any more. They like the flat stones so that it's easier to mow around. There is however, one here in Frederick that is very old and has a lot of statues. There is also a statue for Francis Scott Key.

The older cemetary have the nicest markers. The new ones, are so plain. Just like the difference between the older buildings and new buildings.

Wonderful finds! That lamb indeed is worn and aged! Those angels are really sweet as well.

I didn't see this posted at the scavenger hunt group. Did you send it, or is it not showing due to a glitch? I'm not sure which it is.

Beautiful photos. I love the lamb as well, though I'm having trouble figuring out how you knew it was one lol. I was also happy to see that the statues are still intact. Sometimes over the years, things like that "dissappear" or are damaged. Mostly kids just playing around and probably not meaning any real harm, but...
