As I said in a few of my other posts, my husband and daughter and I went with my mother-in-law to visit my newborn nephew. He was kind of a surprise baby because he was not due until this week or next. When he decided to be born, it took less than 4 hours from start to finish and his dad had to deliver him. So, we found out that he was born on Tuesday, October 16th, and headed down to Texas early Friday morning. We arrived in Tulsa a little after 1pm and picked up my sister-in-law who had driven there from college in Arkansas to meet us. It was about 9pm when we arrived in Longview, TX. After we settled in to our hotel, we went to see the baby.
Our first impression of Xan (which is short for Alexander) was quite interesting. The way his face and nose are shaped combined with the fact that he isn't chubby yet, make him look like a baby version of a
n 80 yr old man!
Xan as a newborn
However, after spending some time with him, his personality makes up for his looks. He's VERY alert for a newborn and seems to have great vision.
Xan with his eyes open
My daughter was fascinated with Xan and surprisingly gentle. She has always loved to play with toes and says "tas" which we think is "toes". We let her look at Xan's toes and when we covered him back up with the blanket she tugged it off so she could see them some more!

Me helping Khloe hold Xan
Khloe did have some jealousy, though, and when she saw that Xan got to nurse she would fuss and pull at my shirt until I nursed her!
Here is a picture of my mother-in-law with her granchildren:

While we were visiting, we cleaned and cooked for Lindsay and Andrew. Lindsay had a whole list of things she'd planned to do the week Xan was born, and she got Monday's work done. So we did the best we could to finish her list. My mother-in-law also bought them some groceries and "easy" things (paper plates, pre-cut fruit, etc).
We left Texas around lunch time on Sunday and spent the night in Tulsa, OK. It was raining in Tulsa when we left yesterday morning around 8:30, so that put about a 20 min delay in our schedule and I made it back to work at 1:20pm yesterday.
Now we have to wait until Christmas to see Xan again, and I know he's going to grow so much between now and then! It makes me wish that they lived closer so we could see each other more often. I hope that we will be able to move closer together within a couple of years so that Khloe and Xan are not strangers. For now, they are too young for it to matter.
So there you go, now you know about the trip and my nephew!
