Broken Glass!

All I was doing is trying to cut my grass! I've done it many times with out incident!

This time was very different! I made one round around my front yard and over the gravel driveway we have and a glint of radiant sunshine caught my eye. I went to investigate and this is what I found.

My insurance won't cover it and we don't have the money to fix it so I think what I'll do is cut a thin piece of 1/8" thick plywood to cover the hole, Paint it black to more blend in with the other glass and call it a day!

Same thing happend on my van when dad was weedeating the yard during my visit. It was (out of pocket) $237. I remember it distinctly! Too two weeks of the second job income to get it fixed.

When you remove the glass, put a tarp down outside and inside the van. It makes clean up MUCH more fun.

have had close calls with something like that myself....had a gravel driveway and was in too much of a hurry to move my truck...well needless to say i went over the gravel without thinking which way the gravel would fly and bam! the side of my truck got a few dents. I certainly stopped what i was doing and quickly moved the truck like i should have in the first place. Won't ever do that again!

Can't you claim it on your homeowners insurance???? Would be worth a phone call to see...

Bless your heart. Doesn't your insurance company have any glass companies that they "deal" with? In Texas, there was a glass company that the insurance companies all recommended (when it wasn't covered by insurance). We were always having to the church van windows replaced. $100 a pop just a few years ago. We asked if that was a church deal, and they said it wasn't. Just something they agreed to do for the insurance companies for when their customers weren't covered.

That's a shame Mark....try Henderson glass on Woodward Ave...near 12 mile I think...from what I remember, they will fix the glass a lot cheaper than anyone else...

That sucks Mark! we have so many kids here, and the post put rocks under the lowest balcony. Needless to say, those rocks end up everywhere. And hubby won't cut the grass until the kids pick them all up. Which they have not done. Let one of their dads do it.

The photos are strangely beautiful, aren't they? A possible solution to the repairs is to go to a wrecking/salvage yard. I hit a deer a few years ago and had no comp coverage, it ws one of those curved windshields so to order it from the dealer was close to $1000. Found the same window in a salvage yard, paid $0 bucks for it, and the guy out it in for me for a six pack.

Even at $60, that was a heck of a bargain LOL. Mark, I am so sorry to see this, even though I agree that the pics are gorgeous! Maybe you could work out a deal with an auto glass company where you do a series of before and after pics and make a nice photoessay for the to put up in their office showing the work they can do and they gve you a substantial discount for fixing yours. It won't hurt to ask, especially if you can find one in a junkyard for a few dollars and then have a little independent guy fix it for you.

I'm glad you see the beauty and the humour in it Mark. My husband once ran over a rock while mowing that actually flung out and hit the window of a passing car! It seems funny now but it sure wasn't at the time!

Why won't your insurance cover it? That is awful! Once, at work, the airport was cutting the grass and they broke windows on about 12 cars in the parking lot by flying gravel/stones. They paid for the replacement.
