So my daughter Aundreana turned 14 yesterday. She spent most of the day with her grandparents. Her choice. She had spent the day before with me and the kids. I took all four kids to the mall in Pontiac, Michigan. We ate pizza at the Rainforest Cafe then we walked the mall. She wanted clothes for her birthday so we hit all the clearance sales until we found one that was affordable and one that had clothes she liked. The sale we found was awesome! It was buy one get two free! So she got three pairs of pants for $10. Three shirts for $5 ... in all she got 6 shirts and 3 pants. Then I had a certificate for victoria's secret for a free pair of undies. So I gave that to her to use too. She seemed pretty happy with the day. We even stopped at the Outdoor Adventures store and looked at all the fish and the ducks they have living there. We all had fun. When we got back into the car before the drive home we stopped and got some ice cream at Mc Donalds. On the drive home I asked the kids what they thought was the best part of the day. My four year old said he liked the Cafe. My eight year old said she liked that she got to hug hello kitty. My ten year old said he liked the cafe and my oldest daughter who turned 14 said she like everything about the day. We had been so busy all day when we got home we all ended up taking naps!
Yesterday was Aundreana's birthday. She spent most of the day with her grandparents. Which are my ex hubands parents. They took her out and spent the day with her. She seemed to have fun. When she got back home we had cake and ice cream waiting for her and the smaller kids sang happy birthday. It was really cute my son Jamell (who is four) yelled surprise really loud as soon as she walked into the house. Then he was like "ok we can eat cake now". HA .. he'd been wanting a peice of the cake all day long! The day seemed to go well.
Then bedtime comes and Aundreana got really moody. I know this act because she did this last year too. Her father didn't call her, send her a card, nothing for her birthday. She knows he is like this but then she still seems to hold out hope that he will actually do something for her. Poor kid. I called and left him a nasty message. He is lucky he is so far away ... otherwise I would have showed up at his door and told him how I felt about him!
Now one birthday down ... and two more kids birthdays to go and the holidays too! YIKES!

Sounds like she had a great day. I always take my girls shopping for their birthday, that way they get just what they want.
I am sorry that your daughter did have to face the disappointment of not hearing from her father, but I had the feeling that you and her grandparents did a great job of making up for it. I know you will never be able to completely make up for it, but still, I am sure it means a lot to her that you do everything you do.
