Hello everyone and welcome to the Help Dan Pay For Medical School article. Experiment #1 and #2 went off well and I am hoping to have this article serve as a way for you to chat with new folks, make new friends, and to help me raise funds to pay for my schooling. I am doing the best I can to get by and I live relatively like a pauper trying to make my funds stretch. With any luck, I'll get through the rest of med school with my head financially above water so I can begin helping other people.
Alright, to start things off, here are a few conversation topics:
1) Is there a disparity in healthcare and if so, how is it affecting you?
2) What health concerns are not adequately being addressed in our society?
3) What would you like to see change?
Enjoy conversing with other people and please remember to have fun. I appreciate all of your support and are curious to hear about what's happening in your lives.

So, did everyone get credit for the experiment from yesterday?
I see an awful lot of doctors have packed up and left this area because of the rising cost of malpractice insurance and the record setting amounts awarded in lawsuits. Now if I was to get a good doctor it seems I have to travel outside of my county. That's probably a good thing because I think the only ones left are the ones who graduated at the bottom of their class.
My mom had no insurance and couldn't get a doctor to help her. Even the one at the clinic for low income people wouldn't order the necessary tests for her. So she suffered for years and didn't know what was wrong with her. Finally she got old enough for Medicare. That's when they found out she had stage 4 colon cancer. She lived 13 months after that diagnoses.
This is a fantasy of mine because it's not going to happen in this society. But I would like to see more caring in the medical communtiy. That's not just the doctors and nurses. My mom went to her oncologist on almost a weekly basis for over a year and the receptionists could still never remember her name or who she was. They were too busy about when they'd get their next cigarette break.
Yes, they worked in a cancer doctor's office and they SMOKED!
I am very bitter toward the health care industry.
Honestly, I was working as a contractor for the federal government and the health benefits were so-so. Nothing special, but they covered what we basically needed. When my contract came to an end, I found out the government was going with a different company. This meant changing insurance companies--scary because my husband had a pre-existing condition. We considered going on COBRA, but that is soooooo expensive.
Luckily, I found a new job, and it is a state position. So, I have excellent benefits and health care insurance--much better than I had before. Plus, the state allow all pre-existing conditions to be treated without a waiting period. We are very fortunate, but I know not everyone is. If I got hurt or sick and had to leave work though...we'd be totally screwed.

I'm glad to know that everyone got credit for the experiment. Now I won't be so hesitate to play the games and all.
2) What health concerns are not adequately being addressed in our society? The real sad thing is the outrageous cost of health care insurance!!! My goodness...we make too much to get help with health care but if we are responsible enough to try and keep insurance, we see nearly 200 per week come out of my hubby's paycheck.
3) What would you like to see change? Make health care insurance more affordable and more people would get it and keep it.
He'll make a good doctor.
My scripts are a copay not more than $3 that is very
good coverage I think. Thanks for this article. Plus I do
try to eat healthy, take the right supplements, boost
my immune system (no spleen). Walk everyday!

Yes but so far we are okay, with benefits at work. What is TERRIBLE is that those without health insurance don't get a break from being uninsured, but get charged more. Those with insurance get discounts!
2) What health concerns are not adequately being addressed in our society? Making sure that everyone has insurance or access to decent medical care. Without that, it costs us all money.
3) What would you like to see change? Make health care more affordable for all.
Take care! more

The hospital was supposed to charge me 1/2 price for my stay since I didn't have insurance. After 10 months, they still haven't billed me correctly, but they did start calling me 3 days after my hospital release.
At this point I still am being billed for over $22,000 for my hernia surgery. My caring regular doctor has found another hernia. I'm not even going to ask my caring surgeon to perform the surgery I can't afford until I finish paying his office the $4500 I still owe. At the rate I'm making payments, I'll be on Medicare then.
