Deadbeat dad

Ok so for the third year in a row my ex husband has done nothing for his daughter for her birthday. Not a phone call, not a card, not a gift .. nothing. She turned 14 today and once again he has let her birthday pass and done nothing for her. How pathetic. He did nothing last year either for any of his 3 kids.  Not for their birthdays .. or the holidays. However, he does everything for his new wifes kids .. whom are not his own. Makes me sick. How can someone be so cold? I am glad he lives all the way in florida or I would have to go over to his house and kick his behind!

What a waste of life he is ... My poor kids. I know my daughter is hurt but she is used to it by now. Since this is the thrid year he has done this.

My Dad was pretty much the same way. I lived with my grandparents for most of my life and I never got so much as a phone call on my birthday or for the holidays. To this day he still cannot figure out why I can't stand to be around him or resent him so much. I feel pretty terrible for your daughter because I know what she is going through. Deadbeat Dad's suck.

my sons dad has had nothing to do with his son in almost 3 yrs... He sends nothing for his birthday or any of the holidays.. he doesnt call.. he doesnt write.. He does everything for "his" family though.. Makes me ill to think of it... My son is only 7 though...

Yea my dad hasn't called me since before my son was born (5 months ago) I'm not even sure if he knows my son's name. He also live in FL. Hmmm

Deadbeat Dad's do suck... I am glad that my husband is no deadbeat to his son... I just wish the boy's mother would allow him to talk to his dad when he calls and actually let him keep all the things his daddy gets him... It is a shame when we spend $100 on a remote controlled car he HAD to have for Christmas and it disappeared as soon as he went to sleep his first night back at his mom's....

BF - Yes it's sad when parents use their kids as a form of control like that. She'll regret it one day when her son sees what she's done. It'll be too late then.

Wish your daughter happy birthday from your friends at Gather!

Let your daughter know that it's OK to feel hurt. Kids don't just get used to things like that. They store it up and it festers into something if not counseled and dealt with it. She's going to take this snub personally, and it will probably affect the way she views herself. She's going to need encouragement that she is a beautiful wonderful person. That is the only way I know how you can counteract what your ex is doing to her.

If she doesn't admit her feelings to you now, she will in about 20 years!!

My friend Suzy in England had the same problem with her ex... he lived only blocks away yet for 12 years after their divorce he didn't so much as say hi to his sons.

Now she's married to a wonderful man who's a great father figure to her boys... but it doesn't erase the years of hurt feelings those kids have.

I feel so sorry for your daughter. And my kids too since their dad has never gotten then a birthday card...well...ever. I hope that she had a super day anyway.

sorry to hear that. Please make sure she understands it's not about her - he just isn't getting his act together, and no matter what a nice/sweet/lovely/accomplished young lady she is, he is still not going to acknowledge that. Maybe that is why his parents spend time with her - to mitigate the hurt? If she really knows it's not about her, it will not scar her for life...

I think that is terrible. What a horrid person not to call his children on their birthday, or to send a card or a gift. That is awful.

For many years my mom called me on my birthday. Until we started having problems. She hasn't called me or sent me a card in many years. When my birthday hits, I wonder if she will finally do something. My sister used to call me and sing "Happy Birthday" to me. She hasn't done that in years either. BUT my husband, son and friends usually call me or send me stuff so that makes me feel better.

I think this Deadbeat Dad should be ashamed of himself!

Hopefully your daughter will be able to find someway to be "okay" with the situation. Unforunately, she'll need to cut herself off from those emotions so he can't continue to hurt her. Its not easy.
