Wow, What A Difference Two Miles Makes On Your Wallet!

As some of you might know, our family shops at Aldi and Walmart for groceries. What we can't get at Aldi (or what isn't as good or cheap) is bought at Walmart.

The other day I was at Walmart and thought Bagel Bites would be something cute that Gideon might like since he likes pizza and bagels. Well, once I saw the price that was out of the question: 18 bagel bites for $3! Insane!

Today at Aldi I caught a box of bagel bites there for $2. A box of FOURTY bagel bites.

I went back to Walmart unable to believe I was right on the prices. Yep. A box of 18 bagel bites was $3. A box of 40? Almost $7!

In driving the two miles from Walmart to Aldi we saved $5 on a box of bagel bites.

Usually the food is a bit cheaper at Aldi, but it's typically a couple bucks or less saved per item. This one was a huge shocker. So, if your kiddos want bagel bites you know where to go. :-)

Thanks. We got an Aldi's here in my town and I have only been once. It isn't too far from my house, but I just never remember it is there until I am driving past it. I really need to start shopping there more often, but since it is mostly me for the week, I don't do much shopping for food.

It's not a bad place to shop, though ours is iffy on the produce. A lot of times it's moldy (I'm allergic to mold so this is especially bad) but I just skip past and go to Walmart for that stuff. Everything else has been good.

We happen to live across from a 24 hour Walmart, so it's good for us and usually cheap.

I try to avoid Walmart for many reasons, but sometimes I end up there searching for certain things. Ocean State Big Lots is another place to find things--I have gotten much lower prices on stuff there, but of course, it's always an adventure seeing what they have available on any given day :-)

We have been fighting with Wal-Mart here. They want to build a Super Wal-Mart right around the corner from one of the local high schools. It is already a very dangerous area with all the traffic from the high schoolers, K-Mart, Food Lion, some restaurants and a drug store as well as a lot of tractor trailers going through to the interstate. We have managed to fight them off for the moment and they didn't get to buy the property. There are plenty of other spots to put a Super Wal-Mart that wouldn't endanger any more lives than there are now. I don't see why they can't just buy one of the many plants that have closed down, tear it down, and build on one of those sites.

Catchy title! I love Aldi's bagel bites, they are so good. Probably your family will as well. We have a local grocery store offering rebates, so I have been cleaning up on those and neglecting Walmart and Aldi. These rebates are INSANE! Free milk, 10% off on groceries BEFORE coupons! Wish it was a nationwide thing, but probably only for WI.

I keep forgetting about Aldi's since it is a bit out of the way - definitely worth a trip every now and again to stock up on some dry goods.

Walmart isn't as much as a "discount' store as people make it out to be..I always find the stuff more expensive and less.

Jennifer.. We shop at both too.. Aldi's does have some great things. I also shop at Sav a lot which is reasonable too.

I like shopping at the Super Walmart, but it is on the other side of town so we rarely go more then once a week or every other week, HEB is closer and on the way home from my husband's work. Some things are cheaper at Walmart but not enough to justify me doing all my grocery shopping there.

Ouch Austin. Wonder if that's a regional thing?

I'd say we do about 60% of our shopping at Walmart. Things like salad dressing and spaghetti sauces I'm picky on and Gideon adores their frozen dinners and Lunchables. None of which Aldi carries.

In NJ, we pay $7.99 for the box of 40 at the supermarkets and $3 for a box of 9! Really! I usually buy them at Costco - 60 of them for the same price as the box of 40 at Shoprite. I think Bagel Bites are overpriced as it is. I buy them just to have them on hand for quick meals. My son is more of a pasta and mac n cheese kind of kid but once in awhile, when I don't have any fresh pizza dough on hand, I'll ask him if he wants Bagel Bites. If so, I make him 9 for a serving (he is 12 and eats like a 16 year old!).

I do part of my shopping at Wal-Mart. Also some of the other supermarkets have better deals - Stop & Shop and Wegman's have the best quality and S&S has great deals with their card.

We are getting an Aldi in about a month. I cannot wait.

I hate Walmart and do my best to stay clear of it.
They are getting too big for their britches.

Back in the 80's and early 90's Walmart was the Bomb but now.....I do all I can to go frequent the little small businesses in my town.

The Aldi is being built less than 1/4 mile away from Walmart. I hope they take a bunch of busienss away from the big "W"

I agree wal mart use to be good back in the day but their prices are just as bad as the mall now. I never shop there for food. I really dont go there to much and yes im an aldi's shopper have been for a while I love it there. Also another good one is Save A Lot but we dont have one near us anymore they shut down.

We have a Sav-A-Lot not too far from me but my husband says that we are on a budget but not desparate. LOL

The place that the Sav-A-Lot is located is right in the heart of "little mexico" and they really only cater to the hispanic population here and most of the store is foods that I wouldn't even know what to do with. LOL
The meat and dairy at that store is something that I wouldn't give to my worst enemy. My in-laws who only shop at Sav-A-Lot and Aldis wont even shop at our sav-a-lot when they come to visit us.

So.....being on the Dave Ramsey Budget, I will be sooooo happy when Aldi opens.

oh man that sounds like a slum hole. Ours wasnt even that bad. I liked the snack foods they had.
