WTF?

Why do people go by and give people ratings of 1? I've noticed on a few of my pieces that someone will come by and leave a 1 and not even say anything about what they felt was wrong with what I posted. Are they just too cowardly to reveal how unhappy they are?

In any type of unmoderated environment you're bound to have jokers and kiddies giving 1's just to be jerks. If the piece really deserves a 1 then the rater should feel obligated to explain the reasoning. As far as I'm concerned I think a comment should always follow a rating regardless of what number they click.

I personally don't pay much attention to ratings and value the article on it's merit and meaning to me. And I have a bigger problem with blindly giving 10's to anything and everything anyone reads. I would rather have an honest rating with a critical review so I can work on improvement.

I think people that rate low should state why. Then the author has a chance to try to do better if it is warranted. I personally give 10's everytime someone has written something that moves me to comment. OK Other wise I just get out of there, but that rarely happens. I only read what I want and usually love it! I like this. 10 good question.

I try not to pay attention to those drive by ones. It might mean something to me if they explained the reasoning behind it. Since they don't, I just view it as someone's childish behavior.

I've had pieces of work published nationally that has caught some 1s. Either jealousy or sadism is at work, I figure, so I just turn the rating system off. The comments are more valuable, since they take time and thought.

LOL Maybe you have a "friend" that doesn't like some of the stuff you post...they want "real" writers on here...I find the negative people that complain about that I usually do not invite to be my friends LOL And if they already are my friends then I disconnect... ;o)

I have been hit by 1's just because they didn't agree with what I said. I've somewhat started to toughen up, but it still sometimes bothers me. Here's a 10.

Dan...try not to take it too personally. I have been hit many times by the DB1'r...just as so many people have. The truth is...the person never leaves a comment because the person most likely doesn't read your article anyway, so wouldn't have a clue what to say. I'm thinking the person perhaps just doesn't have much going on in his/her life....and gets a sick charge out of thinking he is causing upset. Sad...but true.

I learned a long time ago that people here don't want critique, they want adulation. If you write a bad article full of spelling and grammar errors and waste my time with b.s., I leave a 1, and no comment, because comments give points.

I have found that people who give me 1's tend to be those who disagree with me. They don't usually discuss things, they just "ding me." No big deal. Ding away!

I have seen a few of these myself, and hate it when I read a really good article and it's rating is way down because of some joker.

If I accidentally hit the 9 or less, I explain in open view that I had made a mistake. And apologize.

People feel the need to bring everyone down to their level. That is it!

How do you even know that someone gave you a 1 rating? I'm not sure whether it's ever happened to me or not. I think that if someone gives a low rating, they should definitely comment to explain the rating. To avoid this, though, you can choose to have your articles unrated. I'm not sure whether or not this affects how the points are distributed, but I don't think anyone can really explain that, anyway.

I call them gather meanies in my gather land video for the guides contest. They just want to low rate and unnecessarily flag everyone's stuff to show how unhappy they are. And they must be chickens because they don't leave a comment to say why they rated a 1. I mean sure, it would make us hate them totally if they left a comment and admitted that they left a 1 but it would be the right thing to do! But cowards do their deeds in the dark of the night! Or in the anonymous underbelly of gather land!

Well at least now we have the option of not letting the article be rated. I am not a cowardly lion though. If I leave a rating I leave a comment good or bad.

The ugly remark means that that person has so little talent to write any type of article that anyone else's is automaticly downgraded to a 1 for them.

I am commenting on all of your articles and photos as you have asked us to do in the mass email sent out! Not all my comments will be personalized as there are 20 pages of articles to read through and even more than that on photos and I would rather spend the time reading and looking and enjoying then writing! It's happened to many of us, dropping the 1 bomb. But you know there may be more than one motivation behind such behavior. For some it is kind of like a terrorists attack, for others it's most likely an immature expression, like kids who paper your trees during Halloween, and then for some it may just be plain meanness. Then again, there may even be some who really think the 1 is deserved, and consider it unnecessary to also comment, thinking the rating of a 1 is self-explanatory.
