And I wonder if maybe the one snake isn't also two snakes-heads-tails, working in a lemniscate, so that the dark head eats the bright tail and the bright head the dark tail. You know? And if you use a ribbon, not just a string, you can give it a turn before joining into the lemniscate and see how it's constantly turning inside out and outside in: you go on forever in those reversals.
