The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too.
—Samuel Butler
We have two twin Siamese mix kittens who were born on April 1. They are identical in every way, except one of them has a tiny scar on his hip that changed the color of his fur where he was nicked when he ran under Darling Husband's recliner during a melee.
They LOVE to gang up on Daisy. It is the funniest thing I have ever seen to watch her get sandwiched between the two of them as they roll her and proceed to drive her nuts because she can't pin both of them down at the same time. They are so much fun to watch.
All of our pets are indoor/outdoor, as we have a fence for the cats to run in for safety from other neighborhood dogs, and the fence has an electric wire along the TOP of it because one of the mutts who will remain nameless (Angel) discovered the lake in our neighborhood and was going for a daily swim while we were at work every day!
Daisy isn't big enough to put out in the back yard alone just yet. We tried it while we were outside to see what she would do, and it took her a whole 5 minutes to discover a space just big enough to squeeze her little squirrel sized self through.
So during the day when no Humans are home, she lives in a crate big enough for a Great Dane. She also goes out there from time to time during the evening and weekends so that I can get things done in the house without worrying about her mischievousness and her safety, but I leave the crate door open when I'm home so she can wander around the back porch and not be totally confined. She can't get off the porch yet. She's afraid of the steps, because there are lot of them, and they're kind of tall for her, so I don't worry about her wandering down them.
So, in the evenings, Daisy is put on her leash and we go out for a short walk around the yard, and she gets to romp and play with the big boys in the yard, and she runs herself crazy back and forth between them, me, and peeing because she knows I have treats in my pocket, and every time she pees or poops outside she gets a treat.
The best part of my time out there with all of them, though, is watching each of the three of them honing their "hunting" skills. The kittens will stalk through the azaelas and behind the boxwoods, and will even manage to slink through the huge gardenia just in time to pounce on Daisy as she walks past. And she will jump like she's one of the cats, all four feet off the ground, and land with an ARF! as loud as the Rottie up the street.
Even funnier is watching Daisy try to hide in the grass, and Gizmo and Gadget pretend they don't see her because she's so invisible, and she'll pounce on one of them and they act like they've just been scared out of their skins.
Sometimes, I envy their carefree lives. All they have to do is eat, sleep, poop and pee. And play. LOL What a life.
