Raleigh, NC – For North Carolina native and CMA Horizon nominee Kellie Pickler, it’s always nice to go home and it’s especially nice when you return to sing for a sold out, SRO crowd. For Pickler, more than 5,000 screaming fans welcomed her to Raleigh’s Dorton Arena. Kellie’s hour plus show went late into the night as Kellie took photos and signed pictures, jeans and red high heel shoes for the nearly 1,000 fans who stayed afterwards for a personal moment with their idol.
It’s been a huge year for Kellie, who recounted a funny story with Raleigh’s WQDR radio. On Tuesday evening, at the ASCAP Awards in Nashville, Kellie received a songwriter award for “Red High Heels” which was one of the most played songs of the past year. Kellie recalled standing on the red carpet at the ASCAP Awards in 2006 as a brand new artist and said, “Last year on the red carpet, I got pooped on by a bird, and last night I got an award, so I’d say it’s definitely been a better year,” she laughed.
Tonight the tour bus heads south to Birmingham, Alabama for Thursday’s show where Kellie will begin a three city weekend tour with Rascal Flatts. On Friday, they will play at Philips Arena in Atlanta and on Saturday night they will be in Greenville, SC. On Sunday, Kellie will sing the National Anthem in Dallas as the Cowboys take on the Minnesota Vikings.
