When I was growing up in a little southeastern town in Pennsylvania that no one's ever heard of, we were all proud to say we were the childhood home of John Oates (from Hall & Oates, the performers). Yup, that was about it for our big claim to fame. What the heck, he's a good artist.
Moving down south, Miami had a lot of famous folks in the Latino community who either hailed from there or called it home then. Gloria Estefan and her husband have a restaurant or two down there, for instance. Too many other examples to name.
Now I live in a teeny tiny town. We can boast that John Travolta makes his home here, and flies his personal planes out of the local airstrip. Comedian Carrot Top doesn't live too far from here, but not very close by. "The Yearling" was written and set in this vicinity. I have yet to take the state park walking tour based on the novel, or eat at the restaurant named after it, though.
What about the places you have lived? What claim to fame could those places boast of? Or, if you can't think of anything else, what was your town or city best known for locally?

Our town of about 20,00 is the hometown of NASCAR driver, Mike Bliss.
It is also the birthplace of the Bing cherry.

I forgot to mention that since I live near a retirement community, a lot of golfers have a spare home around here. LOL. Nancy Lopez is one.
