The 13th of October and it’s cold and windy outside. I need exercise. I head to Charles Daley Park on Lake Ontario, a neighborhood park to walk and see what I can see.
My camera is HP Photosmare 635.

I was looking for fall color and found a bit.

First I head to the beach area. The last time I was here it was crawling with children but not today.
The wind kicked up a bit of wave action. Not as exciting as winter waves but pretty interesting. I took lots of shots on my camera trying to get the perfect photo.

The beach is always interesting with rocks and mermaids tears. Mermaid’s tears are bits of glass worn smooth by the sand.

The shells are light so they get tossed up on the beach, they remind me of the ocean.

Today there are ladybugs in the mix.
I watched a branch becoming future driftwood.

The view east called me to the rest of the park.

The grass is green again after several inches of rain.

The bench invites a rest.

Walking away from the lake are smaller lakes made up of backwater from Lake Ontario and the streams that feed Lake Ontario.

They are swampy and interesting and usually visited by fisherpersons.
The fields have a few wildflowers still around.
I took several shots of the Thistle.

Wild asters are still around.

The thistles are beautiful.

I continue on past more Thistles to another beach. This one is smaller and there is a woman walking her dogs away from me.

My walk is done and from the hill where my car is parked I say goodbye to the lake for today.

Thanks for walking with me.

The park used to be a Provincial park, with camping, fees, rangers and such but because it's on a small slip of land between the QEW (a major 6 lane highway) and the lake, it was not popular or cost effective.
Ontario sold it to the town of Beamsville for very little and it is cared for by the community but closed at night. No more camping. Events are held there, and it's a popular fishing spot with the smaller, calmer lakes on the property. The beach and the waves make swimming fun in the summer as long as the water is safe. Pollution on all the Great Lakes is a problem.
For several years when my children were small we had a home lakeside and walked the beaches daily. I have buckets full of mermaids tears gathered by my children and myself. Now I only pick up the cobalt blue ones and consider them good luck.
I am grateful, however that this city neighborhood called Southside has tree-lined streets and my walk takes me past homes and apartments as well as businesses and 2 city parks. It's dark at 6 a.m, but the neighborhoods I pass are bristling with joggers, dog-walkers, the late night bar folks walking home, the pancake house cranking up and the ubiquitous Starbucks washing down the outdoor streetside tables. I stopped by my 24-hour grocery store (Western) and picked up a few things on the backside of my walk.
Thanks for sharing
And I grew up on the shore of Lake Michigan and never heard of the polished glass being called Mermaid's Tears. How neat!
I never got to the front page today so that was a pleasant surprise!
Thanks for all your wonderful comments too.
What kind of camera were you using?
I love the big tree, draping down, with shade, inviting me to sit and ponder.
