So, we made up a crock pot of beef stew tonight for dinner. I cheat on some of the ingredients, but basically here goes:
- Beef cubes - put them in a pan with some oil and about a 1/4 cup of flour and brown it until the beef's gotten a good start on all sides.
- Put the cubes in a crock pot along with some chopped vegtables (we usually just use chopped carrots, potatoes and some onion)
- put a can of tomatoe sauce and a can of fench onion soup into the mix
- Add a packet of beef seasonings (those cheap ones from the store) and 1 or 2 packets of brown gravy mix as well as 2 cups of water. That should just about fill the crock pot to capacity, and then stri it all together, set it on low and let it cook for about 8-10 hrs until the beef is very tender.
I generally add some garlic powder, seasoning salt and pepper to it as well early on. I like the seasoning and gravy pouches because it adds thickness to the broth, and since we make up a large crock of it, we need quite a bit of liquid as well.
