Countdown To Vacation - 21 days and counting...

Yesterday I got a package in the mail.

It was a package of books from Powell's Books. Not just any books, children's books in Spanish. Why? Because I'm getting ready for my Fall trip to Mexico.

Each Fall I go to Mexico for at least a month. And I always take books and school supplies for my pet project, The Children's Library Project in Barra de Potosí.

This is the library building before it's new paint job. I'll post one after the blue paint and murals were added later.

This year I'll be spending 6 weeks South of the Border.

I'll be spending most of my time in the village of Barra de Potosí. I'll also be visited for a week by my Mom and my sis.

I'm planning to visit some Tarascan ruins, visit some 16th century churches, go to Paricutín, and do some kayaking. And, those of you who know me, I'll be taking lots of photos!

I'm just getting so excited, I thought I'd share...

Rick, I am already looking forward to seeing loads of your amazing photographs. I have never been to Mexico, but I would love to go one day. I think it is fantastic that you are bringing books down to the library.

took 3 years of spanish, but you really have to go to a spanish-speaking country and immerse yourself for 30 days or more to begin having real conversations, or so they say.

You're right, Kim. All that high school Spanish went down the drain when I arrived. Especially when I picked the area of Mexico with the heaviest accent. "Like trying to learn English in Alabama" I've been told...
