I love to write. I have made a good bit of side money on Helium and Associated Content, not to mention the cards I get for writing here. However, writing is definitely not a full time thing for me.
One reason is that I am too social. Writers need to have a lot of alone time and when I am alone for too long, I tend to go in search of other people.
Another reason is that I find when I try to force my writing to make money, I simply block and can't get past it until I take a step away. We would be a starving family if I depended on it too much.
I had taken the summer off from writing for many reasons and now, just this weekend I have gotten back to wanting to really write again. Hey, just in time for some extra holiday cash I guess.
So, for many reasons as much as I love to write, I will never make it a full time career. For those of you that do, I commend you. It isn't easy !

However novels I could. I adore work on novels even though it's something that takes years to get a finished manuscript. But that I could do for a living, love and even pursue it.
I've been told by some in the business that I'll make it, but I'm taking a time will tell stance with it all. Getting through drafts is tough for me time wise as I'm trying to make money via Gather, AC and such in between having a family. It's all a labor of love, though and maybe one day it'll sell.
For fiction writers, however, I think alone time can be crucial. This is why many go off to isolated spots to write for months, even to a cabin on a lake or something.
I write because I'm not happy when I'm not writing. Every year I make some money. I'm blessed to have a husband who financially takes care of our family. My health makes it impossible for me to work full-time so writing has been my blessing.
