As a world traveller, I need to know a few things and I'm hoping y'all can help me out. Recently, I did a multicultural lesson with my kids and as part of it, I taught the kids to say hello in a few different languages. I'm hoping you can teach me a few more. Please post the language and the appropriate word of phrase. Feel free to note whether it's formal or familiar. One per post please.

There are 13 ways to say hello in German depending on time, location, and region so here goes:

"Guten Morgen!" is said until about 10 a.m.

In Bangladesh it is Ei Je (eye jay). As far as I know, it is the only Hello I know of. When a lot of Bangladesh people say it, it comes out sounding like A JAY.

The spelling is wrong.. that's the response to a French hello. Fine, Thank you and you.

Ciao , I think it's a dual purpose greeting and goodbye in Italy. Serbs use it for goodbye and Hollo as a greeting..
