Monster Island is the first novel in a trilogy by David Wellington. Set entirely in New York City, it is about a small group of survivors fighting there way through hordes of zombies in order to score some medical supplies. It takes place after a worldwide zombie apocalypse, and offers a lot of things not previously seen in other zombie stories. Highly recommended.

Dude! I just read this series! My wife' is reading them now. Loved these books. I couldn't believe I was actually sympathizing with some of the zombies.
