Friday night, Aus and I were having a lovely Chinese buffet dinner. When I cracked open my cookie, the little slip of paper inside revealed an astonishing fortune:
GOD WILL GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANT
I just stared at it in disbelief for a few moments. It's a very bold statement for a fortune cookie to make, especially to an atheist. First of all - what kind of deal would this be? Is it one of those give your soul to me and I'll give you everything in return kinda bargains? I think they're more reserved for the other end of the Christian mythos, the guy with the horns and the tail. But I could be wrong - isn't blind faith and obedience a kind of giving up your soul, that spark of your own inner divinity?
Or maybe it's that despite not believing in a higher power, I am destined to have everything I want in life because true divinity is in being able to define what you truly want out of this world. Being able to get it, well... maybe that's just a matter of definition. When it comes down to it, don't I already have everything I've ever wanted? I have love, I have freedom of expression, I have the ability to make a difference here and there. That's pretty much all I really want.
And isn't that divine?
Or maybe, y'know... a cookie is just a cookie and I think entirely too much.

and I believe in you...
and so does he...
And for my example is I do not want to have tons of money, and the proof is when ever I get any I am always giving it to others...
And most importantly, faith is not giving away anything, it is the embracing reveled truth and focusing on a future related goals...
just my 2 cents but for you I'd give more... your both worth it...
Interesting, I just read an article about the fortune cookies and they are using a new set of fortunes that are supposed to appeal to a broader range of people. They have a store of 10,000 sayings and have 2500 in use at any one time.
God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is no, some times it is wait, and sometimes it is yes. He knows better than we do what we want/need, which is to say, we won't get everything we ask for.
Why don't you try it out. Say, "God, I don't think I believe in you. But I am willing to give you a try. I pray that you give me a sign that you exist, today." Ask Him to make it be something that will erase all your doubts. As a Christian, I think He'll do it.
Genuine cookies would not reference a deity of western philosophy,
rather they would impart a Taoist Dao De Jing or a wisdom from Lao Zi.
... the downfall of atheism - lack of faith in the movement ...
