-Thomas Edison demonstrated the first light bulb for home use in 1879. 

-President Theodore Roosevelt officially  named "The White House" in 1901.

-Paul McCartney played for the first time with the group that would become The Beatles in 1957.  They were originally called The Quarrymen.  He flubbed the guitar solo, which made him decide not to play lead.

Teddy Roosevelt not only made the nickname for the presidential mansion into its official name, he is also responsible for the building of the West Wing. His family was so big there was no room for office space in the main building, so the West Wing was built as "Temporary" office space. Not so temporary. It was under the next president, William Howard Taft, that the Oval office was first built.
