That darn packaging kids toys are in...

Okay, I hate to say it but sometimes I hate the holidays! I hate having to put together the toys that day on Christmas....and today reminded me of that. My son's birthday is in November and then we have Christmas and then my daughter's birthday is like a week after Christmas. We get used to a lot of presents around here and I have to get used to putting them all back together.

Today, we went to Toys R Us. My husband promised my son a toy...well you know you can't go in that store and not walk out anyway. There just happened to be a blowout sale that day too. It was so busy...I never saw so many screaming kids. My son saw this and wanted it so bad!

But of course it would cost us a small fortune. I really tried to talk to him into getting something else but he cried and cried. He almost had me talked into it too. But his dad did some fast talking and got him this....

Now this picture looks way cooler than it actually is. This makes it look amazing but...It took me a degree in engineering to put it together.

Now this is what it looks like....does that look fun??? not really...the only thing that is exciting is that it talks...other than that its cheap!! So what happened to people? Why did manufacterers get cheaper???

Nothing is made like it used to be and it has gotten more expensive to purchase. It is a no win situation.

This does not just apply to toys. Have you noticed how narrow toilet paper has gotten? LOL

One Christmas I was hired by a family to build and assemble all of the toys their children received for Christmas. They didn't believe in wrapping paper, anyway and always just put the toys under the tree without wrapping.

I agree, and oh my have I been mad at all the packaging at times. My oldest son has learned (after a whole lot of practicing) that we can go into toy stores to look, only if he doesn't ask for stuff. He can tell me what he wish for, but that it is. I can imagine this would be rather difficult to carry out, if I had my husband with me.

That is a good question. It's ridiculous what we have to pay for low quality items nowadays. Not to mention that they're so hard to set up. I bought a treadmill a couple of weeks ago prepared to set it up thinking that it wouldn't be too bad...the directions were so unclear and confusing...it took me /hours/ to get it done. o_0

you're only allowed to buy the toys, you're not allowed to actually open them!!! And those boxes are truly great, they can be made into all sorts of different things.

Skip the toys this year. Make a bunch of IOU's and do stuff with the kids for memories. Have fun sugar.

Toys are so cheaply made these days. Whatever happend to Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs--now those are great.

nothing is made the way it used to be. the toys from my youth are still around in my parents attic, toys these days are easily destructed.

They gat cheaper cause they do not want things to last. They want the kids to break them so you have to get them another one and another one. Back in the good ole days they made things to last. The toy makers made things that they were proud of and that would last many years. Today, there is no pride in making anything. It is done by machinery fast and noncaring. It's all about quanity and not quality. It is sad to see.

Some of the newer toys can't top old classics like play doh, lincoln logs and things of this nature.

Lincoln logs are still around...they are in plastic and wood now....Tonka Toys are now mainly plastic!! What happened to the good old day when you bought a tonka toy cause they were built to withstand anything!

Yep - they never ever work like they show them on the tv. The manufacturesrs don't care anymore - obviously - with all the freaking recalls going on!! It's sad - it hurts & insults the kids!!!!

We don't do wrapping paper for the kids toys -- that way I can spend Christmas Eve prying the toys out of the boxes rather then trying to do it Christmas morning with impatient children screeching.

It does look a little cool ;o) I hate having to unwind all of the wires that hold the toy in the dang box! "Someone hand me a couple of wire cutters!!!" ;o) We bought this cheap race car thing & it falls apart so easily that my boy takes it apart & so therefore I have to put it together ALL THE TIME! So now I have it shoved into the bottom of a box LOL! ;o) I hate some toys!
