Discussion Topic #12: Healing--Where does the power to heal come from? Have you ever received a healing?

When I was in college in Hawaii we learned how to lower our blood pressure with concentration. There came a time I was having a physical difficulty and I used the same technique. It worked very well. For me it was using tapping into God within me. That's the best I can explain. I could probably stand spiritual healing more than any physical. But I quite frankly don't know how to do that.

I went to a Vineyard conference and one of my ears was playing up. They called for someone with occasional deafness in the right ear to come up, but I decided they didn't mean me. The ear got worse and I went to another conference - same call - this time I went forwards. My ear felt very hot, and heat melts wax, and maybe it was just emotion, but my hearing did improve. At the same time, I'm told I "shook like a leaf" and the person praying for me prayed that I would hear God, rather than that I would hear. It was a turning point in my faith, giving me a confidence to speak that I hadn't had before.

Later people were invited to pray for whichever gift of the spirit they chose, in the faith that God would provide it. I wanted to pray for the gift of healing, but when it was my turn I prayed to speak out God's words. You ask where the healing comes from, and the standard answer is faith; but I've come to believe the faith itself comes from God. When God doesn't give me the faith, I pray "Thy will be done." When he does give it, I pray in wonder because I can see His will already coming to pass.

I did take my dog to be healed to a dinner of Charismatics I was very involved with. I'd have been at that dinner myself had it not been for the dog being sick. My parents were out of town and it was a Saturday night. I was afraid the dog would die, so I bundled her up and took her in time, everyone was about to leave. A group of us prayed over her. I remember one of the men saying someone doesn't believe, "BELIEVE" he bellowed in a loud voice. So I concentrated as hard as I could. My dog got up and walked around and getting steak bones off the plates. She hadn't been able to walk for days. She was just fine after that.

I KNOW that the experience of my own Spiritual Awakening transformed my body to some degree along with a couple subsequent very much related 'energetic' transfers I experienced ... the sum total being that I no longer had some of the rather chronic pain that I had before and I never have had since the degree of normal illness that was routine before ... plus my memory ability cleared up and my general intelligence level increased dramatically (ability to understand things). The energy transfers during those experiences were quite unique but most certainly felt ...

A few years later my wife was diagnosed with cancer and was scheduled for an operation. The evening before, while she slept, I placed my hand on the suspected area and more or less 'prayed' to God that I would rather it was me than her, and while I was fervently thinking that, I felt what seemed like an electric type tingling sensation go from me to her ... I gave it little thought until after the operation when the doctors said the growth was NOT cancerous at all as expected ... I really believe that was a miraculous 'healing' ... what ever, those things come from God not us ... yet it is said that God does reside in the temple that is our own body ... and we are all interconnected by the one and same God (even though we maintain different histories and personalities which is our unique Soul) ... anyway ... IMnsHO.

The energy for healing comes from God. Pure and simple, ask and you shall receive.
I have studied Reiki healing, basically an energy healing. Along with the Reiki I visualize green healing light, and ask for God's healing to flow in to my crown chakra down to my hands. The heat that is generated is amazing.

I have had several. I was supposed to be paraplegic after an accident. After a very sincere, determined prayer I walked out of the hospital. There is a little more to it. I guess that's an article. I've had so many blessings and synchronicities.

Wow, this is a potent topic. And a beloved one of mine. Like Liz I grew up on the Eastern shores, and have all the snot to prove it. Believe in anything outside ourselves, other than going to the congregational church twice a year to show off our new clothes, was the extent of my training. But I had a belief in God...no, a Knowledge that was far beyone my years. I knew my life was going to be tumultuous, and when thinking one day, sitting out behind the wood shed at our hunting camp, about all the powers that I knew I inherently had, but didn't have at the moment, the image of God taking car keys away from a drunk came through and I thought, ahhh. I'd kill myself and other's though what is coming. I knew I had been blinded to where I had come from. Getting sober was a major healing. It is one disease that almost strictly responds to a higher power and nothing else. I feel that I have also been brought through some incredibly difficult times, some where I met people who I still am not sure whether they had a soul or not. Frightening. Often especially after sobriety 27 years ago, I have asked, ahhh, so I had some really great times, but these past ten or twelve years I've been plummeted back to hell and would give anything for a healing. What I recieved was information. On gathers. Also from a book by a Rev. Deborah Johnston. She began the church of inner light, an omni faith church. She is black, and a lesbian and of course female, so she had her mountain to climb. She wrote a book called Letters from the Infinite. My son is deeply involved in her church in Santa Cruz CA. The book is written through her by God. It is incredible. This book was sent to me three years ago, and every time I pick it up, I am soothed. It talked about what was happening with me a couple of weeks ago, when I was freaking about my life. I was freaking so bad, that I was shaking. I found in her chapter about being reborn, how we reach the time where the pain of looking back in despair becomes more painful than reaching for the future or for God. That the energy will make us feel literally like we are coming out of our skin. As soon as I began writing the first chapter for the crime contest, it stopped. Now I can't stop writing. The other thing I think of is an American Indian friend of mine, who has seen it all as far as prejudiced, he was a commander in spec. forces in nam. His life is really incredible. He got sick with COPD. When I first met him he looked like crap. He went through a healing ceremoney of which he cannot tell me, but the ceremony could have killed him also, it is a rough one. He sought for healing of his spirit. to make him ready to die or live. That took about a year. we met about eighteen months from the time he left for the healing, and I was bowled over. This man was healthy, handsome, vivacious. He does not like the christian religions, his deep belief goes back to Grandfather and the Elders. Blew my mind. Also I just wanted to add that my aunt sylvia, who had been a nurse, asked me one day did I need a neck rub. I was having a migraine. She put her hands on me, and told me that her mother had always said she was a healer. Well, Yeah. My body responded like a kitten to touch. She had the gift, and none of the new aged dogma to go with it. Not that I don't like new age or any faith. I just find healing people in the oddest places.

Liz, you sound VERY connected to God to me ... a great testimony. Also I was not aware that I had had any positive affect on anybody, that being my main goal in life, it is very gratifying to hear that from you, I thank you for helping me fulfill my mission to any degree I could. (I know it couldn't have probably amounted to much other than maybe an interpretation on something, based upon the strong base you already have) We each really are our brothers and sisters keepers, especially if and when we allow each other ... :-)

This has been a powerful thread so far and I can't wait to read more. Talk about inspiring! Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I'll write more later, but I wanted to share that our parrot had a healing through Reiki. We were out of town and he was staying with friends. When he became ill, our friends called a Reiki practioner. She worked on him and he showed no further signs of illness.

As I've told Carla, my grandmother was Cherokee and could heal people. At 8, I saw her "take away" a burn that my sister got when she touched a wood stove at Christmas. Not everyone sees that as a child or understands it as an adult. When I was younger, she taught me a lot about natural herbal medicine as well as pieces of what to expect "when I came into my own light." I didn't know what that meant until I started having "dreams' that would come true. Unfortunately, one of the strongest that I had was of my grandmother's cancer. Her "doctors" were telling her that it was asthma and one day after talking to her on the phone I just "knew" that it was lung cancer, what nodes it was in, how much was there, and how long she had to live. I tried SO hard to heal her, to take the cancer away. It didn't work and she passed away within 2 days of what I had said she would. When I was unable to "save" her, I swore that I would give up all spirituality, abilities, religions, and "shut off" all of my gifts. I thought that was working for a long time. However, my beautiful daughter (that I was told I would never be able to have after being abused as a child) was born one year to the date that my grandmother passed away. In Cherokee beliefs, my daughter is a reincarnation of my grandmother. I've had many scoff and say, "If your grandmother could heal, why didn't she heal herself?" My answer is... Physical manifestations and abilities are no match for mental and emotional desires. My grandmother's body was tired, as was her heart. In her duality as a human being, she was tired and missed my grandfather.

Now, since the early summer of this year, I've met SO many people who are Spiritualists, I've joined a Unity church because I truly feel loved and accepted, and am learning that it wasn't my lesson to "save" her... merely to learn from her and take up where she left off. I've always been told that I have a "healing touch" or sometimes even a "healing spirit." I didn't understand that until recently. Now, I'm L E A R N I N G my own path of spiritual awakening and truly believe that God (or GUS... Great Universal Spirit) exists in all of us. That healing "power" is present in EACH person but it's how you focus that energy and how open to it you are.

I believe that the whole universe is filled with energy, we use this energy when we help heal, and this energy can be called God. I prefer the term Great Spirit as this is non-sexual.
I have had spiritual healing. I lost the tip of my right forefinger about 8 years ago and was having intense phantom pains until a friend "sealed" my aura over my finger by pushing the energy back into the finger. At least, that's what she said she did. I have never again had any kind of phantom pain from that finger.
Kirilian photograhy has shown the existance of some kind of a field that extends out from the body and that this field continues to exist even after a physical piece becomes missing.
Our bodies do run on electricity and that energy can be manipulated with intent. Quantum physics now agrees that intent matters.

There is no healing-that is the myth! Saying something needs to be healed is saying that something is wrong-form follows thought. If something needs healing then there is a flaw in the Universe. We may think or perceive that something needs healing but the truth of the matter-all is perfect. Jesus did not heal-he simple saw the truth and imparted that truth. You may want to research Ho'oponopono-

I do not understand everything and much is a mystery to me, but in Unity, we talk about seeing the divine perfection in ourselves and others. It is that which is within us that is Spirit, unchanging and perfect. Sometimes we are unable to fully express that perfection in the physical world. Why? Perhaps it is because of our lack of awareness of this divinity/energy/force or because we are focused more on our problem. Healing may be a way of just bringing us back to the truth of that perfection.

Another belief in Unity is the idea that we may be experiencing some dis-ease such as cancer, but we do not identify with that and we affirm that it has no power over us. It is something that appears to be part of our human experience and that can help us learn and evolve spiritually if we allow it. The people who have shared their experience thus far have been willing to be healed and to embrace wellness. They came through their experience with not only a physical healing but a spiritual one as well. So maybe that experience is part of the perfect order of their lives.

I think of the biblical story of the man by the pool of Bethesda. He had been lying there for days waiting. Jesus asked if he wanted to be healed. He saw within the man a hesitancy to fully express that divine perfection. Some people get mileage from their afliction--they want the sympathy and pity more than they want to be healed. I do believe that the touch of another is a powerful thing. It can bring healing, warmth, and kindness. I have seen and heard some wonderful things about the touch of healing. One important aspect is that the person in need should be ready for the gift and work as hard a the giver. The negative brings blockage and we must strive to stay open to the universe to receive its gifts.

Yes, Nan, I have seen the power of touch with the elderly that I work with. And as research has shown, babies who are not touched do not thrive and even die from the lack of this basic need that we all have--no matter what age.

Another question that I would throw out to the group would be about the healing of a pet. Does their soul accept the healing? I believe that all living things have consciousness. Plants have been studied on their responses to various stimuli and they react in a way that proves this.

I work on the gentle continuous project of "the self as healer." (It's hugely validated in the so-called placebo effect.) And then reach for the most natural means when needed, because I suspect my self can understand and put them to use best.

Further to placebo... Typically those were made of sugar or salt. I've got to say, sugar and salt are two of the most powerful drugs in existence.

I would have to disagree with Philip above that there is no healing, that all is perfect. I will say, yes that is true from the perspective of God, but we are at the very best only gods, and most do not even allow that. Thus in our less than Godly finding there is very much that is not as perfect as it could be ... healings help change that in their way, best by arranging for more people to begin to believe in God maybe.

The ultimate truth is the oneness and overall unity of all (including us) and God, but meanwhile we are separated by many concepts and it is God's Spirit that is bridging those apparent gaps and voids of relative truths that we each and all hold as our personal reality. ImnsHO :-)

When you think of it, John, the placebo effect is about faith. It just depends on where we place our faith. If your belief is strong enough that the doctor will heal you, then chances are that you will be healed. The same goes for a placebo or a healer or in self-healing. As Jesus often said, "Your faith has made you well."

Jerry, I would agree that our ultimate truth is our oneness with God and each other. And when we come to this realization and truly live from it (easier said than done), then there may be no need for additional healing. That realization is healing in and of itself.

As a child until my early twenties, I attended an Assembly of God pentecostal church. Often, there would be members of the church who had suffered pain for years on end, who continually prayed for healing, had hands layed on them by lay people and the pastor, and nothing would improve. Others, however, newly diagnosed with cancer, after being prayed for, would return from their next doctor's visit completely cancer free. This would cause some tension among the people because some would say folks weren't being healed because their faith wasn't strong enough.

So having seen healing occur firsthand, I believe in it, and having seen it not occur firsthand, I find it to be a mystery. Why one gets healing and another doesn't, seems to me to imply some sort of impersonal randomness that is involved, where God, or the Universe, or whatever you want to call it, in it's wisdom comes back with an answer of 'yes' for some and 'no' for others, where on this side of things, it remains a mystery as to why for either answer.

But yes, I do believe in healing.

Carla, I do not disagree with you on that as much as there are still others maybe less believing that can still be in apparent need of healing, maybe by those more believing.

To claim, as some do, that oneness with God, the perfect unity, is the reward for true belief, belies the fact that they are still here living a very singular physical life that by all indications is not a perfect unity with God no matter what they claim. Of course only God knows the real truth of that, but many of those claims sure leave a lot to be desired IMO.

Having participated on other Internet formats similar to Gather where there is a preponderance of younger people of the NewAge/Eastern spiritual concepts, I found many where all indications were that they had learned the talk but not the walk, and being such a close knit group, they all talked that same language, knowing all of the right things to say and claim, yet for one that REALLY knows and questions them, it is not too hard to see through the acts, quite possibly, like many christians, they really believe that they are what they claim, just in ignorance of the real.

Again, God knows, but I think that those on earth that also really know, should attempt to set high standards for the simple reason that false knowers make poor examples for those that may be beginning their spiritual search, those that prefer highest truth and the best examples. Truth should be the standard, both in talk and walk.

Healing means so many things! What a wonderful conversation. I have seen many physical, emotional and spiritual "healings" as well as experienced them personally. I know many "healing" practitioners in traditional, easter and energy "medicine".

My personal truth is that all of it is God and God is everywhere, even within us since God is Love. My take on the "healing" is that even in traditional medicine a healing occurs because it removes a block or condition that keeps us more human than our God-like objective of a happy soul on earth, living life.

Some of the healthiest and most 'healed' souls I have know where those with physical conditions that were untreatable and so the person had to heal the emotional and spiritual side of themselves, with faith in a compassionate God and a little help from their friends. :)

Jerry, I concur about younger people (myself included) learning to talk the talk but not walk the walk. As a mentor of mine recently pointed out (much to my chagrin) I am so on fire to just KNOW that I'm forgetting that the LEARNING is 99.9% of the process. I don't believe that anything is a coincedence and my own group of mentors/friends, the Unity church that I belong to, as well as you all on Gather came at a time when I was putting out that I needed QUALITY teachers to learn from. But, it is hard to discern the "right" path when you're surrounded by people who are telling you what to do, which is what I think happens to a lot of people my age and just people who are new to metaphysical thinking. But, one thing I'm learning is that your IT may not be my IT and my IT may be awesome for me but really not the right thing for the next person.

And, I have witnessed the healing of a beloved pet... Her tumor was taken completely away... So, yes I agree that pets/animals any living thing can be "healed."

Therese, you have made some excellent points. The point about different kinds of healing is important. I have also seen some individuals who have not been healed physically, but have forgiven themselves and others and reached a place of peace before then making their transition to the other side. This is certainly a healing. My belief is that not everyone's soul chooses to continue living in the physical world for one reason or another and chooses to return to the spiritual realm. My father was such a person. He was ready to go and be united with his mother who had died when he was four.

Jerry, my comment was about a level of spiritual awareness achieved by the masters, such as Jesus. I believe that when we reach that level, where we truly live in accord with the truth of our oneness with God (not just intellectually know), we will have no need for healing. When we can be at that place where Jesus was and say, "When you have seen me, you have seen the father," and be a clear channel of God expressing--not coming from ego--then that is the highest level of spiritual actualization. That is what we all can aspire to, but will we reach it? Most of us probably won't in this lifetime. But it is part of our evolution in consciousness.

As far as younger people who are not able to walk the talk...we all do the best we can knowing what we know and where we are in the journey. We may see "in a mirror dimly" but gradually we will all awaken and come into knowingness. Again, maybe not in this lifetime...

Shanelle, teachers are great, but your best teacher lies within you. Take the time to go within and listen to the still, small voice. When a teacher tells you something, take it to "headquarters" as Charles Fillmore used to say. Pray and meditate about it. Spiritual growth is a process, an eternal one. Be patient with yourself. Enjoy the journey!

Wow, see what I miss when I don't check in on the weekends. This was a wonderful thread to read. Thanks for intiating this, Carla. There is much to ponder. Each soul has a different understanding of healing because, even though all paths lead home, all quests are different - thus the healing path is different for each of us. To my thinking, all of physical life is a spiritual healing, in every species. Each of us are givers and receivers of that healing. It's all about finding our way back to source through the help of others, whether they be humans, plants or animals, or even angels. What most humans don't really understand is that they themselves are guides, evn as they are guided. Billy Granham's mother had a mantra that says it all: "Pass IT On." - This is what Jesus spoke as well when he said, "Go ye into all the world.... and pass this mystery on." (paraphrased)

I feel the great Nazarene Man had it right...healing is a matter of re-acceptance of what preexists; perfect wholeness, perfect harmony.

A doctor (holistic practitioner) does not "heal" his/her patient, but suggests modalities that generally support the immune system that, when left to its preexisting resources, tends to return the body and mind to a balanced state. Our BELIEF about healing modalities, however, is the most important criteria to health...as it is to the power of prayer. Jesus also left us with this core gem: "It shall be done unto you as you believe."

DIS-EASE is a temporary resistance to the natural order and the body's way of taking out the trash when your choices (toxicity) don't serve it.

How does your body react when you BELIEVE you've lost your wallet, keys, or purse? That shock...fear that you have lost something valuable...is embodied, and even your physical senses will default to your belief "it's gone!" You can walk right past your keys (as an example) and with the stress, your brain neurons can't deliver to your consciousness what the eyes may be in view of, OR your memory of the places you've recently visited are temporarily blocked. All of this changes when you relax, hold open the possibility that the treasured item is just temporarily out of view, and then your options for recovery (mind/body/spirit) are maximized.

PRACTICE: Next time you can't find a precious item...and we each determine how vital any material object is...say to yourself, "that's interesting, my keys are temporarily out of view and memory--let me be with that for a moment." As you breathe into that experience, separation anxiety is transformed. You reflectively realize that although inconvenient, this event will not destroy or damage your Being. THEN, you are free to allow your intuitive sensing and subconscious-mind recall to help locate your desired item.

Carla, I came right over when this article was first posted, read what was here, and suddenly got extremely tired and had to go to bed. But the thought of what to write here kept at me.
Your prompt about pet healings is what I will address.

First: there are individual imbalances at the soul level which sometimes require assistance, new connection or reconnection. That's because the individual is a "cell" or an "organ" of a groupmind, eh? There are species groupminds as well as cultural, national, genderal, spiritual, and so forth. One thing that complicates matters a little is the fact that many souls choose to reincarnate in more than one species form; and such souls have various groupmind histories which must also be addressed. Sometimes what appears as a physical ailment is actually a past-life (or parallel life, or even future life) imbalance. Sometimes what appears at first to be a pain in need of "healing" is actually a signal that the individual is ready for their next step in soul initiation - ready to move to a new level of learnings and tests.

I remember a couple of shih-ztiuhs in Texas. One of them was already very advanced, and came to me regularly for his next level of empowerment. One day his scruffy little girlfriend decided SHE wanted to try that energy work stuff, and asked me for an attunement, which I gave her. She changed so dramatically, and felt so profoundly good about her spiritual work, that she began bugging me to do the same kind of work for her friend Merlin, a cat. I kept telling her that Merlin would have to ask me himself. Finally one evening, Merlin came to me and asked for an attunement. The whole time I worked over him, his little shihtziuh friend "held space" for him energetically - she stood by, watching everything, focusing all the power of her intention on the procedure, for her friend's benefit.

I left the area not too long after that, and returned the next year. When I walked into the house, my human friends who lived there told me that the little female shihtziuh was out on the porch, and I should come see her - she was "different."

There she was, sitting erect, very dignified and serene, on one of the padded deck chairs - she was gazing out over the Blanco River. I tuned-in with her and she said, "I am going to become a Buddha in this lifetime." She gave me a picture-communication of herself teaching groups of human meditators as they sat in a circle around her - she would be monitoring their meditation by tuning-in with their picture-minds, and she would be giving teachings telepathically.

I've been gone from there several years, and haven't heard recently how far along her humans' plans for their healing center have come. I haven't thought about all this for quite a while - now I'm thinking I should call them soon and see what's up.

So anyway - healing.
Re-balancing.
Sometimes physical - but most importantly, whenever possible, in the mental field, with the creation of balanced thoughtforms to keep everything harmonious..
Healing.
Attunements, empowerments, adjustments to new levels, testings and integration....Holding powerful one-pointed intention for highest good for all, so that each healing is a benefit for the whole, eh?

Wow! That's fascinating, Carolion. I think it's great that you work with animals. As I mentioned, our first parrot had a healing through a Reiki practitioner. He has since passed on.

Wow there is a lot to think about with this group. It makes me feel like an infant. I actually am afraid for someone to offer me healing, and I believe it is in my mind set and I really don't know. I do believe in healing by God, I also believe God can use people to do this.

I can not recieve the sayings of shamen, or holistic healings. Like I said I feel like an infant that neither has learned how to talk or walk.

Wiaka, I appreciate your honesty. You are willing to own the fact that you are afraid of healing. Believe me, you are not the only one. I see you releasing that fear and accepting your worthiness as a child of God to receive that healing. Keep your heart and mind open and just be willing and grateful for what comes.
