Ronald, I Miss You
(changing alliances)

I have had enough of lies and of bombs
I have had enough of a congress that can’t get along
I’ve had enough of the infernal IRS
They begrudge me $200 but foolishly billions they spend
I’ve had enough fighting over the union of queers
I believe live and let live while we’re still here
I’m tired of blaming Saddam for Bin Laden deeds
The former has been hung while the latter’s still free
Saddam was killed for embarrassing Bush’s dad
A war for personal vendetta, now that’s really sad
I’m tired of agreeing it’s okay for Rush to use drugs
In reality, he’s just another pill-popping thug
Ronald, I miss you, I wish we could chat
Are you turning in your grave as I become a democrat
Instead of ‘mission accomplished’ we now have ‘mission redress’
I have heard enough lies would like someone to confess
The real reason we invaded, ooh it makes my heart boil
The only victors Cheney, Halliburton and of course Big Oil
And now we stand idly by as Putin re-invents Mother Russia
I guess it’s vogue to shout ‘human rights’ at some but not at others
I’ve had enough ‘suits’ eating caviar on my money
Enough so that I’m voting for a president that Bill calls ‘honey’.
Yes, I’m tired of werewolves who have overtaken DC
You can still hear them growling they’re watching over you and me
But I’ve got my own mind and can draw my own conclusion
Another four years of Republican and I’m afraid we’d all be ruined
Ronald, I miss you, I wish we could chat
Please don’t roll over in your grave as I become democrat

My dad was a union man and always a democrat. We had plenty of fussing and fighting about that. But what bugged me to no end was that the would just vote democrat, period. I, on the other hand would do some research about candidates.
I guess I get tired of folks thinking that the dems are not for big business. Or that they can identify with the littlel guy. Baloney butts. If you look at the worth of most dems, they have more money than most of us ever will have. Many have never been a "regular" guy, and most would have no idea how to socialize with or identify with any of the things they claim. Nah. They're all politicians. And as much as the dems say they would like to pull out of the war, if they really had wanted that they could have gotten it done.
Before one of our female friends points it out to you: all the other presidents probably had someone who called them honey, too.
And I wasn't thinking the females friends pointing that out- It's clear enough. Did you not know IMMEDIATELY my candidate of choice?
Okay, I changed 'someone' to 'Bill'; but I suspect Bill has called many ladies, 'honey' - especially when they're under the desk? LOL
interesting
Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you have switched.
Marilyn, I think it is impossible to be successful in politics with personal wealth. The days of Lincoln are gone. Both Hillary and Bill came from humble beginnings and difficult home environments.
I do feel that the Democrats pay more attention to the lower income population than big business and the wealthy. All you have to do is look at the record. I can't see how one can justify a tax break for the wealthy to fuel the economy.
Our health care system ranks 37th in the world (2 above Cuba). How on earth can we rank just 2 above a poverty stricken 3rd world communist country? Do you know where San Morino or Andorra are? I don't , but they rank #4 and #5. I think "She" has the conviction to make a positive change. The system is so unfair now and I haven't seen much Republican effort to fix it.
I can't form an opinion on abortion. I can sympathize with both sides.
The gay marriage issue is both religious and economics. A minority of Americans are practicing Christians, can we rightfully express our views on the remainder of the nation? The core problem in this issue is health insurance. Health insurance? Yes, employer group insurance gives a major discount to a spouse. We're talking millions and possibly billions of dollars in discounted coverage if the gay marriage is sanctified. Who do you think are in the largest group of campaign contributers and lobbyists in DC? You got it...insurance industry representatives. That's one reason your rates are so high. They're spending your $$ politicking for their own interests.
I don't know what the solution is to this quagmire in Iraq. We don't seem to be getting anywhere and are losing both American lives and world opinion in the process. I hope some genius comes up with something. We should have left it alone and maybe gone and helped the starving and oppressed in Africa. We might have had better luck there.
Who knows, we might have found some oil there.
I think history will be kind to GW Bush like it has been for Andrew Johnson and US Grant.

Regarding Iraq, There was a dictator in power, he is no longer in power, this is thanks to our intervention. Have we all forgotton 9-11? I know the attack was not issued by saddam but that he was in bed with terrorists is a proven fact. Remember folks, he was the one who refused the weapons inspections, he was warned, have we forgotton his attempts at genocide or do those lost lives not matter to us.
Yeah, lets go ahead and put the dems in office. The ones that love our children so much, what did hilary say, oh yeah "it takes a village". I'm sorry it doesn't take a village and more importantly not the village idiot. The problem is the gov't has TOO MUCH say in our daily lives. They have passed a law against Tran-fat for crying out loud! Trans-fat of all the issues to worry about, Trans-fat! My Mother cooked with LARD, My grandmother cooked with LARD! Now we need the gov't to tell us what we can cook with, what we can eat??? I don't use lard but I didn't need a friggin law to tell me it was bad. I am sorry people but if we keep going at this rate we will be living in a totalitarian system. At the rate the gov't is going we will have no say so in what we do, how we live. As for the gov't taking over healthcare, this is sheer insanity! The gov't can't manage the medicare system now. Do you know if you are a senior citizen or disabled they will pay for you healthcare but not your dental care or vision care. They'll save your life if you have a stroke but you can go blind and your teeth can fall out and they don't give a damn. If the gov't were in charge of healthcare and your doctor made a huge error, you could not sue! You can't sue the gov't. So if you go in for an mputation and they cut off the wrong leg, you are powerless to do anything about it. If we give the gov't absolute control we will have no rights. Think carefully how you vote. I grew up in the land of the free, I will be voting to hold on to my freedoms.
Ask yourself this, what made Hilary Clinton an expert on Healthcare. As for the clintons coming from humble beginnings. Don't fool yourself. I know where Hilary came from, she came from Park Ridge, Il. A very affluent area, I know I am from the northside of Chicago and Park Ridge is very affluent. As for Bill, his upbringing wasn't as humble as he lets on either.
Look I am not in total agreement with the republicans and I am not saying they haven't made mistakes but I see no one, not one candidate on the dem side that is qualified to run this country.
Regarding Rush and his addiction, I find it quite interesting that the party who wants to hand out a disability check to every addict in the country wouldn't embrace poor, poor Rush and give him a map to the nearest disabilty office.
In regards to the healthcare ranking, it is based on the World Health Organization's system. It is not within the scope of this reply to describe all the factors but more ijnformation can be found at: "http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html".
Many people do come to the US for specialized care but there is a growing industry of people also going overseas due to the extremely high costs in our country.
Blue Cross/Blue Shield is under investigation in CA for dropping patients when they need insurance the most (i.e. including pregnancy and terminal illnesses), they have been fined about $1 million dollars. In the same turn, they have donated over $40 million dollars to political causes in the last year. Where are their priorities?
I think if someone wants to load themselves with transfats, they can go ahead. I'd rather not ingest it unawares in any food products without my knowledge. I agree with you on this point.
There are dictators all over this world. Is it our job to fix them all? We have a mess brewing in Burma now. What is our responsibility in this regard?
I'm not for government health care but some controls on prices that have gotten out of hand. What I do think we need is more responsibility by individuals in regard to insurance and less profiteering by the insurance companies and healthcare providers. It is obvious that many people don't have coverage that can afford it are putting a load on the ones that do. The seniors do need dental and vision coverage. Both problems can lead to more serious health issues. I sell insurance for a living and I am aware of how much things cost and how much some insurance employees make. Many people are being raped by both the hospitals and the insurance companies. I can't see how your bill can be $23K for 3 days in the hospital with no surgeries. But I've seen it.
I haven't read the "Village" book so I can't comment.
I do predict that the Dem's will win and partially due to Bush's separating the GOP by his policies. He has been working for us.

The WHO is an international organization. I'm not aware of either the percentage of hippies or Bono wannabes in the group.
We should have the right to sue physicians, hospitals and healthcare providers for negligent care, always.
Who are you referring to with "we all know our Gov't is incompetent"? The present or past government?
The people haven't been able to regulate healthcare so far. When do you think we'll be able to?
I don't understand who the "someone new" is, can you clarify that statement?
We have been heading toward more socialized medicine since LBJ enacted Medicaid in 1964. It has been a slow progression through many administrations. GOP and Dem.
I wasn't very clear. Perhaps I need to expound. I feel we need to 1) enforce health insurance on those that can aford it, assist those that can't. 2) control medical charges to reasonable limits. 3) equalize insurance premiums by eliminating rating up and exclusions for pre-existing conditions including age. 4) place caps on the profit that insurance companies can realize. 5) make care fair, equitable and accessable for all income levels. 4) have a better way to assist those on multiple very expensive medications.
The government has passed many laws in support of an individuals healthcare rights. The most notable is the HIPPA law which placed stiff penalties on the unauthorized sharing of your medical information and also prevented exclusion or rating of pre-existing conditions in the event of job loss or change. I think that was a very good move. I remember when doctors would review their patient's information in a group at a table in a crowded cafeteria or discuss a patient in an elevator or in the hallway. Such practices have essentially stopped.
In this country, if you have a mental illness, or a combination of diabetes and high blood pressure you almost cannot get health insurance or if you do you must pay very high premiums. The only option is a group plan or go uninsured.
Do we let these people just fall by the wayside?
marty
Everbody, take a breath. Breathe.... It's easy.
All kidding aside, I do not believe in voting straight party ticket ever! I don't ever even tell people what party I belong to. It doesn't really matter anyway as I vote for who I think is the best qualified and not because of party affiliation ever...
Thanks!!
I wouldn't join either party personally.
I'm Independent and glad I am.
One clarification: here in Canada we've had socialized medicine since I was a young child (enacted in the early 1960s). You can still sue for malpractice. The doctor, a private practicioner, provides the service and is still responsible for what he does. The government pays the bill and we pay for it through taxation. In the end, we pay way less than we would if we had to pay directly. I think this is what Marty was refering to in the WHO study. From what I understand average health care costs in the USA are way higher than in other industrialized countries and still fails to cover millions of its citizens. Our health care system isn't perfect, but it is high quality and available to all regardless of ability to pay. American companies locating branches in Canada often find our health care system to be a competitive advantage over locating facilities in the USA, because they don't have to carry as much insurance coverage and the cost their employees pay through their income taxes amounts to much less than the private insurance costs.
Robert, as for the WHO ratings......France and Italy are #1, Canada #30 and Germany #25. I think a trip to France or Italy for my routine doctor's visits sounds nice. How about you, Robert?
The bad thing I hear about Canada is that it takes SO long to get anything done. Is this true Rory?
Good night all,
marty
In recent years the situation is improving, though there is still a lot of ground to make up.
My mom received excellent treatment all through her life, with many different medical problems and numerous operations. She rarely had to wait any significant amount of time and was always given first class care. That is my most personal experience with the system (other than the birth of my children both in the same hospital, where two of my nephews were also born, and they also received first class service).
