FDA to examine claim that some lipsticks contaminated with lead

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has said that a third of the 33 red lipsticks examined by an independent labatory do contain a level of lead exceeding 0.1 parts per million, which is the FDA's limit for lead in candy. The FDA does not set a limit for lead in lipstick. The Food and Drug Administration has announced on Friday it would look into claims from an advocacy group (The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics) that certain lipsticks contain potentially dangerous levels of lead.

Hi Connie, I do not think the recalls, or the issues with lead paint will end soon. I think what we see is just the start of the bigger issue, which is that we have outsourced ourselves a bit too much.

I sure hope they are not trying to kill us.

It sounds like they've known about it longer than a year. According to what I've read they say that the lipsticks in question have passed inspections and the amount of lead in them was considered to be an acceptable amount.

I'm sorry... I don't care what anyone considers acceptable... there isn't any amount of lead going in/on my body that I find acceptable!

But I have to wonder, lead has probably been used for years and years and only now is it being told to us, that products contain lead.

Why not just stop wearing cosmetics? I don't wear any makeup of any kind. When I asked my husband, now that I'm fast approaching 40, if he thought I should start wearing makeup, he was taken aback that I thought I needed makeup on my face.
Just a tip ladies: men won't notice if you stop wearing makeup! So stop throwing your money down the drain (or into the compact)!

I do wonder what will be recalled next
No one regulates the cosmetic industry. So they are allowed to put a lot of crap in the products that we put on our face, hair, skin. There are known cancer causing ingredients in your shampoo & condition.
Lotion is made with animal fat...do you like putting animal fat on your skin?

I hope there will be a day soon, where someone, anyone will regulate the cosmetics industry. We are killing ourselves by not being informed.
