What this habitat house means to me and my family
This house to us is so much more than just a house. It is more than just a structure of wood and nails. This house is going to be our home. This house is our dreams come true. I think I had to pinch myself several times to make sure I wasn’t sleeping when I found out I was approved. To my children and me this house is the beginning of a new life. We lost everything we had when I divorced my abusive husband … and the kid’s father. By leaving him we lost all of our possessions but, we survived. We made it thru. The kids and I got out of the situation alive. The road was not always easy. We were homeless for a time. All of us lived together sharing one bedroom for a period. We stuck together and did our best. However, it always seemed like no matter what how hard we tried we could never catch up or get ahead. We have been renting for years. With renting comes a lot of moving.. that and the ex husband was stalking us for a while. So the kids and I had to keep relocating... Over and over and over again. This new home means the world to the kids and me. It means we will have an affordable home. A home where we can all stay together and live safe. A home in which would be our own... no more having to move each year. A home in a community in which we can get involved in and make it our own. A place where my kids can start to make friends who they will be able to keep over the years. My children will finally have a safe place to live and they will be able to know this will always be their home. This home to us is a dream come true. Built with the love of others looking out for me and my kids. This house is going to be a constant symbol that there truly are angels among us spreading their love to all of us.
