B-Dawg got his tonsils out yesterday. He has definitely been laid low!
The usual recommended diet of jello and broth/soup, yogurt and ice cream, applesauce and bananas is really not sufficient calorically for some people. My celiac son can't have most soups, because they have wheat or gluten-containing by-products in them (wheat, rye, barley). The popsicles, jello and ice cream are tasting too sweet and the sugar is irritating. His meds are constipating, and bananas would be, too. I have thought of such things as adding thin, soft rice noodles to his homemade chicken broth. He likes that. Tonight dinner will be beef stew, and B-Dawg's stew will be thinned and blenderized. Homemade guacamole might be good tomorrow; or maybe gazpacho. Anything acid is out. He is going to be home for about ten days and uncomfortable for most of that time.
HELP! I NEED MORE IDEAS FOR "SICK FOOD" FOR B-DAWG! SMOOTHIE RECIPES! ANYTHING!
And thanks to all who offered well-wishes yesterday!

That aside-
What about chilled applesauce? Soft cheeses like Velveeta? Mashed sweet or white potatos, scrambled eggs? Actually, I don't know if eggs contain glutens or not.
Yes, I forgot, he had scrambled eggs this morning. Potatoes with Velveeta, Rice Dream ice cream and custard--great ideas--thanks!
B-Dawg wanted to go thrift-shopping this afternoon, already being tired of confinement, but I said I didn't think it was a good idea. He said, "Maybe you're right!" He has a compromised immune system because of the celiac, plus taking up smoking in past months. He has vowed to quit! I hope so, because the statistics are against him!
Egg custard should be a good choice. The thing I have found most is that I really have to cook for my friend. You can't just go to the grocery store for most things. Although, I have adapted a lot of things so I can feed her--made a vegetarian lasagne with rice noodles last year when she had surgery.
Tomato soup (fresh--probably not canned) shouldn't need to be thickened with flour, same goes for chicken broth, minestrone (veggies should be cooked down enough to be soft to swallow). Good luck. I know how difficult this is.
B-Dawg's dad just took him out for a ride as he is getting stir-crazy and also needs a distraction from his pain.
William, I read an interesting article by S. Mossad on garynull.com. I was against B-Dawg having his tonsils out (he needs all the immune power he can get), but apparently recurrent strep infections are an indicator for tonsillectomy. Which B. has had repeatedly.
