Jimmy Carter decided today to call Vice President Cheney a disaster. This follows him commenting earlier this year that President Bush is the worst President ever. It is pretty strange to hear this kind of rhetoric from Jimmy Carter. President Carter is not well respected for his term in office. So his credibility in characterizing the effectivness of other administrations seems a little questionable. Second, Ex-Presidents represent us all. You do not see President Clinton walking around bashing other people, it is not something ex-presidents do. It seems that he may be doing some of this for his own benefit to see if he can some how manage to see his adminisration seen in better light before his life is over.

He is speaking as a public figure. His opinion has to be weighed with his experience. His record is that of a failed administration.
I don't see, Micky, that Carter owes anyone an apology. Where were you in the late 1970s?
Joe T., you say he was not a bad president, well, he wasn't a good one either.
As a public figure and ex-president, he should not be openly speaking badly about anyone in the present administration. It's just bad form. Maybe we have to excuse him as he is old and maybe he is suffering from a touch of dimentia, causing him to speak when he should not.

If your opinion of him is true (doubtful), then who do you think would know better than the man with personal experience?
it is not something ex-presidents do.
Ummm, if he is an ex-president and he is doing it, it is something that ex-presidents do.
Whatever you may think about him personally, Carter's post-presidential reputation is pretty close to impeccable.
Something tells me the day will come when [many] more dignitaries (including ex-presidents) will be more forthcoming with their true feelings about the Bush-Cheney years.
I'll make you one, Sandy. It's a sentiment we share. Mine will read "Please froth in complete sentences."
Really?
I don't know how you missed the somnolent idiot, Dear Leader Bush I (and his female-impersonator wife) who shit all over the Clintons and the Reagans while whoring money from the Rev, (God on Earth) Moon.
Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Garnish!
It was announced about five months ago, before the latest trough in Bush support.
Chive---Still waiting 4 the debunking.
Nancy---WOW!!!,....A liberal that fears your comments!,...it must be due to the fact you post those scary things called facts!!,...Ti's the month for scary post!..;o)
Polls and Historians though Harry Truman was bad at the time too. It turns out he did what was right. We dont know how history will treat Bush yet. It depends on how the next President is
I would love to see some of "ideas" that chased Katie's husband out of the military.
Ideas like effectiveness, judgement, accountability, sobriety?
Love that Nanci's icon is a parrot. Pretty much sums it up.
When history is written, the horrible cost of the faustian bargain to arm islamic militants so that Ronnie could claim credit for a weakened soviet empire will be revealed.
Another short-sighted "fix" by Republicans with slogans but no ideas.
He made the military his 'whipping boy' and dessimated the military by cutting back funding to where there was no money for fuel, spare parts, training making military life even more difficult than before. This is a big reason why the military could do nothing
about the Iranian hostage situation.
Those who volunteered to stay in the military under Carter were sorry they did. Carter was more interested in funding his pet projects rather than providing for his military and its personnel and that was his (and many others) reasons for leaving.
The bunch of you who have voiced your nasty insinuations should be very ashamed of yourselves. How many of you actually volunteered to enter the military during the Vietnam years? But then again, you don't seem to have much use for the brave men and women who are volunteering to enter the military today do you.
By the way, just so you fully understand the years of service, my husband entered the army in 1972 While the war was still going on, and left in 1980.
My brother the conservative Republican lasted just fine through the Carter administration in the military (and a few other administrations) so I'm still also wondering why your husband had to leave.
The ridiculous statements that you make only show your lack of any form of respect for anyone or anything other than your small minded self, as well as any real intelligence.
I will not reply to you any further as it would be more constructive to bang my head against a wall. Probably it would also be a lot less painful than trying to reason with the likes of you.
Katie, will you tell the rest of us if you include the historical facts The Chive provided for you in your "most ignorant remarks" accusation? If so, what did they get wrong?
My brother stayed in because he believed in defending his country even when it got hard. He believed he had made a commitment and he stuck to it. Even when he was in the hospital with a chronic back problem (a few years before he was to retire out) he and his friends went around to the other wards to see what the patients (soldiers) needed. They scrounged stuff to make sure their fellow soldiers had the best they could get even while in the hospital themselves.
My brother and I don't see eye to eye on most issues, but he's no quitter and I'm very proud of him.
I was hoping to see at least one fact or argument from Katie. Too bad the mother ship returned before she could respond.
Rolling Stone-yes I go there to read about political fair balanced reporting. I dont even agree with their movie reviews.
Washington Post- Yes and the times will say carter
Commondreams.org-HA. I cant stop laughing to even write about that one.
You can't do it because you don't own an ounce of humanity. You sit behind your monitor armor and sling shots at anyone who doesn't agree with you with the never ending ammunition of venom ensuing from the recesses of your bowels, stupid enough to think that your stench isn't wholly carried through the routers.
You're all peaceniks when it comes to war but for all your talk you can't even create peace in a small cyber community. You're a bunch of hypocrites. I'd tell you to go to hell, but apparently you're already 10 generation inbred natives.
If this had been a Democratic administration, you Republicans would have rightly impeached and found them all guilty. The problem my dear Publius, rather a pretentious name, no? is that you have forgotten to practice what you preach.
Illegitimi non carborundum and Caveat emptor.......as well.
