What's for dinner - Wednesday, October 10th

Today's dinner is simple, very cheap and one of my favorites.

Gnocchi (Italian potato dumpling) in marinara sauce with garlic wheat toast

 

 

The bags of gnocchi were from save-a-lot for $1.00 each (used 2 bags for 4 people)

marinara sauce (3 small cans of tomato sauce from save-a-lot 3/$1)

I added my own spices to create a marinara sauce.  I used: fresh crushed red pepper, garlic powder, basil, oregano, onion & fresh ground black pepper

1/2 bag of wheat bread to toast & butter (bread purchased at bread store for $0.79)

 

Total cost of gnocchi in marinara with toasted garlic wheat for 4 - $3.40

I am making my homemade stew and some corn bread. I also plan to make a pineapple cake.

I've got major carnivores here, so we're having cube steak with sauteed onions, green peppers and gravy, mashed (or creamed, as they say here in the South) potatoes, string beans and salad (always!). I'm feeling particularly domesticated today, so I think I'll bake a chocolate cake and use some leftover coffee from the huge pot my husband made this morning!
