By the numbers in most of the "featured Gather groups", on the Home page, it has got to be quite numerous... Good Question from the inquiring 'Matt' :)
There's a BIG difference in how many members have joined Gather since its inception...and how many are currently participating. Gather claims to have in excess of 400,00 members. That number represents everyone who has ever signed up for a Gather account...once a member of Gather; they claim you as a member forever...even the ones who never came back to the site after they created their account...and all the many members who have left. As for active members, I say, realistically, there are maybe a couple thousand members...tops...who are current and active participants. now.
I agree with Rob. There probably aren't more than a couple of thousand. If there were, I think we would see more new people every time. I tend to see the same group (who I LOVE!!) :-)
There are usually about 3 to 4% of a group that is active in some way. Most of the rest are here and gone on to the next fun thing, or they are simply viewers rather than participaters.
If it is small, then I think that is a good thing because I like meeting the new people but I love my core group of devotees too and I'm equally devoted to them so we are co-devotees, I guess.
