Today I awoke with thoughts on my mind of cleaning this house and minding the bills. Today I was not going to Gather, not me, today I was going to be full of industry! But between raising this body out of bed, making the coffee and feeding the crew of animals at my feet, I looked outside to see what was the weather and to my surprise, I was wrapped up in a blanket of fog.

The coffee was brewing, the animals fed....though the house was still quite a mess....there's much that needs work........ school work, maps of trips planned, and books and newspapers galore on the coffee table need to be sorted....and the cold chest from our day with Roy Hilbinger over a week ago needs to be put away.......

.....and looking over at the kitchen table, I see a week of "stuff" that found it's home there.

Where shall I start, I wonder to myself....perhaps in the computer room...I do need to clean up my antique Stickley desk.

So with that on mind, I go into the room and find well-fed kitties and a dog at their feet....

...ummmm....I say....perhaps for a minute I might sit for a while and check out my Gather articles and see what comments have been posted through the night, what emails do I have from people abroad who started their day earlier then I. And so I sit...for just a minute... and click on the computer....and now five hours later I am still here...just for a few minutes more... but then I think it's raining outside, so it really doesn't matter....perhaps no folks will come to visit today...so who really cares, clean house or not, I'd rather Gather today!

And Ophelia, with high hopes, would rather birdwatch today!

This is sort of an anniversary week-end for me.... it was nine years ago that Will, my oldest son, asked this question of me, "What really is the significance of Columbus Day week-end? Is it not one of "exploration"? So I have decided this week-end you will explore the computer....I know you have resisted in the past this "wonder of technolgy" but this week-end, come hell or high water, you are going to learn!" And here I sit still exploring....so perhaps it was meant for me to be sitting here right now!

But really the decision is entirely up to you. We have really good friends who have made the decision you have made and are extremely happy in their early 60's. When they need a dose of kids, they took ours for a few days and that confirmed their conviction!
I wish I had an all day Gather opportunity, but I don't and won't for awhile. Today is the end of our unseasonably warm temperatures, so I feel I must make hay. I'm only here on a hydration break while waiting for the door to the milkhouse to dry. I'm not sure if I'll need to put another coat on it, so I'll paint the door in the mudroom while waiting.
Truth be known, I'm sitting here in my painting t-shirt, my painting shoes, my painting ballcap on backwards and in my underwear. My painting pants are a bit too tight and I'm hoping I don't have to put them back on to do another coat outside. I can paint indoors in my skivvies.
I enjoyed my visit to your home. Thank you for making me feel so welcome. I mean the place has real atmosphere.
But that view!!!! It's just what I would love. It must be very stimulating...or do you find yourself just staring into the beautiful distance?
I like sun in the morning...it's a good motivator!
I always enjoy pictures of your yard and home. So lovely and welcoming.

Blessings
Kitchen table now cleaned and sparkling and ready to receive "the stuff" of the new week.
Bills paid....so the electricity, the cable, the phone , and gas will not be turned off. And once more the morgage is paid so for another month I have a warm house to live in.
The clothes have been ironed...no wrinkles there but I do need to buy Preparation H....I heard just the other day one can put it on the wrinkles of the face. Weird, it may sound...but I heard it from a good source!
Yet to do:
Clean the antique desk.
Thank you for the story. That was good.
