Why I Am a Nonconformist

Reasons why I am a nonconformist:

1.) When I was very young, I must admit I was vying for popularity and was a 'suck-up' to the 'popular' seeming girls. This was in kindergarten and second grade. (I skipped first) But I failed. Miserably, to be exact. I never fit in, and still don't. So I stopped bothering in third grade.

2.) Most young female writers write fantasy, superhero, or romantic chick stories. I write crime fiction and a murderer is my protagonist.

3.) Most young people my age wear jeans, somewhat revealing tops, and whatever is the latest fashion. I wear suit jackets, dress pants, blouses, and whatever the heck I FEEL like wearing. And I don't care for fashion at all to begin with.

4.) Most young people my age are obsessed with pop culture and knowing the latest details on their favorite (which happen to be EVERYONE ELSE'S favorites too) bands and singers and actors and actresses. My pop culture knowledge extends just beyong the twentieth century. I DON'T CARE.

5.) A lot of young people my age are obsessed with crushes, and dating, and LOOOOOOOOVE (oooooooohhhhhhh). Uh-uh. Not me. The last time I HAD a crush was fourth grade. I was kind of dumb then and someone dared me to tell the guy I liked him so I walked up to him and DID. Shall we say he ignores me now? Okay so I didn't reallyreallyreally like him and was just pretending to since everyone else had a crush-okay fine I stopped conforming in maybe fifth grade.

6.) I actually care about my grades and what they reflect on me and consider my future every time I make a decision. Can't say the same about ALL of my peers. 

7.) I am not biased or prejudiced to anyone. Again can't say the same about my peers.

8.) I stand up for people who are being bullied, or harassed, or otherwise being treated in a demeaning way. Even though this has earned me quite a bit of repercussion and bad consequences and a (shudders, whispers dramatically) BAD REPUTATION. 

9.) I do NOT spend ALL of my time on the computer on Myspace (I don't even have one) or IM; or watching TV (mostly pointless) or gossiping. I don't gossip at all!!! If someone's not there, I don't talk about them except neutrally or positively.

10.) I DON'T CARE IF IT MAKES ME LOOK GEEKY/LOSERISH/DORKY/NERDY/GROSS/WEIRD/ETC. WHY SHOULD IT MATTER TO BEGIN WITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11.) Gee, I can't think of any more for now. Maybe in a future article I will.
