The Fool represents youthful exuberance, going forth blindly without regard for the consequences. As the picture indicates it is often on the edge of a precipice.

The card, when used in divination, means that the seeker has overlooked or ignored important factors. It is applicable to the quote because those qualities represent looking only at oneself and not the world around them.
