When you were a child what was your favorite thing to do in the fall?

I was watching some kids outside across from where I work. They were playing outside and running and chasing one another. it reminded me of when I was little. Me and my best friend Melissa we used to play tag, hide and seek, baseball, and then rake up all the leaves and dive in them and have leaf 'fights'. Then when it came time for halloween I loved to dress up into costumes and go trick or treating. I still remember being a lil girl and going with the elementary school class to the pumpkin patch .. man those were the days!

What were your favorite things to do as a child in the fall?

Nighttime football games behind my house. All my friends and neighbors would come over. Since, we had a big back yard, everyone would come over and would play football all night long, until someone's mother would call one of us home.

I liked the nighttime high school football games. It was a way to see and be seen. I delivered newspapers so the weather everyday was a concern.

we used to take fallen leaves and make the outline of a house, complete with rooms, doorways and even closets! we'd then play elaborate games. The houses kept being added onto until they were huge or the wind blew them away! so much fun!

I used to love the late night strolls in the fall too! I forgot all about the high school football games and parades and such. I had fun. I used to go to the football games all the time. We would all ride in my freind Steve's truck .. bring some blankets and all snuggle up watching the games and watching the people! Sometimes we would even paint our faces! :)

There were a lot of kids in the neighborhood too so we used to go to the church in the subdavison and play baseball ...

Boy how I miss those days! Carefree and fun ... brings back such memories!

I also used to go on hayrides sometimes. I really enjoyed that too. Makes you wish you were a kid again.

I have always loved all the different-colored leaves. In fact, I wrote this poem when I was four (don't remember writing it, but my mother does):

Fall time, fall time,
When I like to see
Red, green, and yellow leaves
Falling from the trees

Still love the crunch they make and the lovely colors.

My parents sitting out in the front yard with neighbors and us kids running around like crazy playing hide n seek in the darkening night. Then of course the annual television event - Wizard of Oz & Charlie Brown Halloween. Trick or treating and then into November - Thanksgiving and the Macy's parade - and planning our wish~lists for Santa. Good memories - thanks for making me think about it!!!!!!!!

Something about Autumn is very romantic, peaceful, loving, calming and family. It could also include football at high school -- yes, but the feeling precedes that.

I can't put my finger on it. It could be the Autumn colours; it could be the relief from summer heat, the fog that would start to come upon the Valley, along with the Autumn colours to create a misty, postcardlike beautiful . . .

I don't know what it is.

Autumn has always been my favourite time of year.

It's also the time of year when I have had the most passionate love/romantic relationships begin.

Strange.

Besides trick or treating I used to enjoy raking large piles of leaves against the garage and then hide under them. When we had braches included we could build a fort with tons of leaves.

Stargaze at the night sky, while breathing the crisp, firewood-smelling night air.The
full moon. Raking the leaves into nice neat pile in our huge yard and then jumping in them. It didn't matter to us that we had to rake them over again.

Smell wood smoke. I liked the music of kindling falling on the hearth.

Of course there was Halloween. We lived somewhere remote so I had to be driven to where there were houses.

The grade school had a carnival. Loved that. Cakewalk etc.

At school we took leaves and crayon shavings then ironed them between sheets of wax paper. That stands out.

When I was a kid we would trick or treat at all the bars, they gave candy bars.

Yeah Autumn is my favorite season .. I see it as the romantic season!

I remember the charlie brown great pumpkin too ... one of my favorites! Now my kids watch it! :) I love how sometimes history gets to repeat itself.
