Here is the flip side of hypoglycemia or low blood sugar and that is
HYPERGLYCEMIA or HIGH Blood Sugar
The causes of high blood glucose are too much food; too little insulin or diabetes medicine; illness or stress.
The onset is gradual and may lead to a diabetic coma.
The SYMPTOMS include :
Extreme thirst
Frequent urination
Dry skin
Hunger
Blurred vision
Drowsiness
Nausea

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I went to the emergency room at the hospital and when they took blood, they found that my blood sugar levels were over 500. They immediately gave me an insulin shot which brought that down to a more manageable just under 300. Still bad but at least they let me leave the hospital. They gave me a prescription for Metformin and told me to see my regular doctor.
Evidently I had been living with diabetes for a few years and I didn't even know it because I didn't have insurance and I didn't go to the doctor.
So I had been feeling terrible for a while and was trying to live in denial of it, hoping that I would get better on my own. Well, that didn't work so well for me and instead, as you can guess, I got worse and worse until I was no longer functioning.
Now, I use insulin and diabetes medication. I try to watch what I eat and my glucose levels are a lot better now! I am consistently under 200 nearly all of the time. Which, that is still high but so much better than where I was. My doctor wants me to get my levels even lower and I am trying but like right now, I have a terrible cold and that is NOT conducive to keeping my glucose levels down so, slight detour in the fight against high glucose levels but as soon as I am well, I will get right back on track!!
I got this paper from a doctor and I hope that you find this information helpful.
