Actually a (moderately) good book on the topic is "Them." This reporter spent a year with folks in 'extremeist' groups. One chapter is on a guy that's trying to expose the Illuminati. Another was on a guy that thinks the new world order is actually a race of space lizards that have chosen earth for thier final confrontations.
It turns out the antichrist was a movie star who lost his mind.
