Marry someone who isn't a dog person?

Or

Marry someone who isn't a cat person?

I am both, but I am particularly a dog person, and I could not marry someone who didn't like dogs.  It's that simple.  What about you?

Well I wouldn't marry someone who didn't like babies because I have a baby girl...so I suppose if your pet is a member of the family then you would not settle for someone who would want them to go.

I couldn't marry someone that isn't a dog person. I can train someone to be a goat person, but the dog thing would be a deal breaker;)

I'm definitely a cat person, but with the proper yard/etc I could stand a dog...

My wife is definitely more of a dog person, but I know she'd tolerate a cat...

Our 2 children are split between dog and cat too, but both would be thrilled with anything!

I'm not a huge fan of cats, but can tolerate them. I would NOT have married my husband, if he didn't get along with my dog.

I could never marry someone who did not like animals peiod. My boyfriend is allergic to cats, but he still likes them and he loves dogs.
Heck, I wouldn't have even married someone whom my pet-family didn't like!

No way would I ever marry anyone that didn't like animals...of course I don't think I would even date anyone very long if they didn't like animals, so the whole marriage thing wouldn't even come into question...you don't lioke my dogs and cat, BYE BYE!!

I married my husband because he loved me not my animals, ,, now if he love me for my animals that is fine,, if not not is fine also,, by the way the animals are with us so I guess he loves me for the animals,, we got them after we were married, yet I had one come with me into the marriage, yet she past this past year..

I would and I could. I'm horribly allergic to both cats and dogs, so they better not be set on having one of them and me both. Sadly my allergies won't hear of it.

Ashamed to say I'm not much of an animal person. I mean, I do care for animals... I just don't like them enough to want to *care for* animals as pets, having 2 kids at home... :)

I'd love to own a cat or puppy, but the last time I tried owning a cat I wound up in the ER wheezing in under 12 hours.

Walker and I are both MAJOR cat people!!! The poor guy is scared he'll get sucked into taking a kitten home everytime he goes to the pet store to buy food. I must say if I was there....I wouldn't stop him. LOL I love kittens!!! ;-)

I like both cats and dogs, but I prefer to have a cat. My husband had never been around cats much before we got married. Now he loves them as much as I do. He claims that one of them is HIS boy!

Kent did. Obviously, we're both moving toward the middle. As in, he is liking dogs less, and I am liking them more. His dislike is due to SUPER annoying dogs in our neighborhood. My change of heart has more to do with time.

We compromised on a cat, and it has been good for us.

Well, I wouldn't marry someone who wanted children because I don't want children. I don't see the difference here. I have a dog and hopefully will always have a dog...I wouldn't marry someone who didn't want a dog.

Would you give up having kids and marry someone who doesn't want them? Or vice versa?

I prefer not to have a cat unless it can be an outside cat, there is nothing more disgusting than the stink of a liter box.

I married a animal person, she likes all animals, she raised parkeets, has dogs and cats all her live, Use to train dogs and show them. We have 10 cats all fixed if ya know what i mean, 1 dog. 5 rats, used be 8 rats three died. At one time we had think it was 8 shepards. Had male and female she had pup (guess who had to clean the pen, wasn't her) I had a male I name Lancer even had him trained a little. We trimed down t he number of dogs we had (sold them) Lancer too. I like animals, I just don't want to be the one who have to clean up after them.

I couldn't marry someone who wasn't an animal person -- I love animals and have always had various kinds of animals in my life. So whoever I'm with has to be an animal person and DH is (although he does have an allergy problem with rabbits so we don't have any bunnies in the family :-)

I'm a dog person, but my husband isn't really. It's okay with me... I don't mind not having a dog. It's helped that he likes cats and so we have a cat now...

I am a package deal right now. I have a dog, and I may have a cat, and they are staying with me.
Gotta be an animal person. I won't even listen to a particular radio announcer on my favorite Internet radio station because he advocates the death of all dogs.

Wow, after reading these responses it is clear to me why we have a 55% divorce rate in this country. There are so many issues that matter, but this one hardly does.

Do you remember 'Seinfeld'? This reminds me of one of his episodes.

I have 2 cats, 2 dogs and a cockatiel. At other times I have had various other birds, fish, hamster, guinea pig, boa and iguana. I love animals of all sorts. As long as the guy lets me have some kind of pet - actually, a fish wouldn't count though they do have personalities - I would be ok.

I am engaged to a person who isn't a dog or cat person. But I am lucky because he will give in to me, lol. He let me get a kitten last year (sadly we had to get rid of it). I think he will let me get a puppy when we get our own home.

That never was a problem for us, we had kids, so we had pets, we still had cats after they grew up and I still have a cat that was his. Would I let that keep my from marrying someone, not a question anymore, but being distrurbed by looking at rental ads, saying no pets allowed, What is someone going to do. A problem arising, anti pets I guess,

I am neither, a dog or a cat person. I don't like animals up close and personal (scared of them) or at least those two animals up close and personal. I like animals from a distance. Since I am neither, I couldn't marry a person who liked either or because then they would want them in my house-couldn't happen!

I like animals they are nice to love, but I'm ready to strangle this cat that my daughter brought home last summer. See I never had curtains in my living room always just used vertical blinds because my windows are so big. So I decided right before she brought the cat here that I needed a change.Finally after 13 years with the same ole same ole I bought a nice set of curtains that are insulated, good quality. The cat has ruined them there all scratched up:( Not feeling too happy and cannot afford to keep buying. Guess when the cat goes with her next fall to college it will be her problem, or will it? hmmmmmm I dunno. Pulling my hair out!! It has a place to scratch but it just loves my curtains.

NOPE! i have 3 dogs and a cat, and they're my babies. I used to tell my ex when he'd b*tch about so many animals and threaten to get rid of them that he'd go looong before they would.. and he did LOL

My husband grew up with cats and I had dogs. Our son wants a dog and the girls would like a cat. My sister bought them "Biscuit" from Fur Real Friends. It's a big dog. We love him. lol.
