Autumn's Kiss -- a photo essay

Autumn is a lover, slipping quietly into the room.

A gentle touch, a hint of fragrance signals “I am here.”

Autumn is a teaser, golden highlights banishing gloom

While gusts of chilly air warn, “Winter is near.”

Autumn kisses what is green with lips of red and gold

And fiery orange to warm your heart and eyes.

Autumn deepens the embrace, painting the landscape to hold

You closer. A clear blue covering beckons from the skies.

Autumn wraps around the senses, filling, tempting all

With tastes of Summer’s end and toasts to coming days.

Wood-fire scent, crunching leaves, cider’s tang say “Fall

In love with Autumn” ‘til snow comes to herald Winter’s stay.

Wow -- really nice pictures! We don't get much color change to the trees in south texas! The fall just means it's not *quite* as hot. ;)

Thanks, Sarah. I know what you mean - in Louisiana our colors were green (spring, summer and fall) and brown (winter). That's one thing I've really come to appreciate about the Midwest - changing seasons.

Very nice...You can get larger images when you publish by clicking on the image before uploading to article editor...A pop up window appears and you can drag it. This works in Firefox but not sure if this works in IE. If you have pop ups enabled, it will work.

I absolutely love Autumn. That one lone leaf at the end concludes your photo piece so nicely and shows how striking that simple image can be and so symbolic of the season. Congrats on your feature!

I lived in Naperville until three years ago. The city is full of maples and I always enjoyed the fall color, even if it lasted only a weekend. Very nice pictures, and nice to see some familiar sights.

Thanks, everyone. It's been a goofy couple of weeks with computer issues and connection issues at home, co-workers ill at work (resulting in last minute scrambles of training assignments), and gosh awful travel times with construction all over the place!

Depending on where I'm teaching on a given day, my normal one-way commute is between 20 minutes for the nearest location and 1-1/2 hours for the most distant one. Well, now my commute time is between 45 minutes and 2-1/2 hours! Argh-h-h-h!

It took me over a week to get this article loaded to publish, and I'm so far behind on comments and emails I may have to quit my job just to have time to catch up (LOL).

Anyway, I'm fine, just tired and busy. I promise I'll get back into the groove soon!
