Disney fans what are your thoughts on "Disney's move into Hawaii market"

This subject was discussed by a few of my family members, and my husbands friends. We all think Disney is losing it's focus. Don't get me wrong Disney does do a great job at the theme parks and with movie and DVD releases.  

However we all feel that by building these Time-share resorts, and stand alone hotels that Disney has begun to lose it's focus as a theme-park leader. And we also feel Disney is branching out too far, in a way to make even more money.

What are your thoughts on this?

 Disney will build in Hawaii, an 800 room hotel and time share resort on Oahu, the company announced on Wednesday. This will not be a Mickey and friends themed hotel.

I think they need to stick to what they are good at....their theme parks and movies.

I guess we will see if they are spreading themselves too thin in the next few years. I thought Wal-Mart was moving way too fast 10 years ago, but they are still going strong. I thought they would self-destruct, but apparently not.

I worked at Disney. I was one of their silhouette artists. I saw a lot of things that bothered me. Especially when Eisner was there. Money, money, money, is all they thrived for, and got away from Walt Disney's plans for family unity. I guess it is like any other large corporation now. Out for money only.

face it.... it used to be FL was the big "vacation spot"... then more and more transplants moved there... it's still big.. but Hawaii is bigger now in vacation money.... and where the money is.. the businesses follow

well, about the comment about Disney sticking to what they do best. How many hotels have they had put up in WDW in the last 35 years? I would think they would know a little about the subject, wouldn't you?
