Generally speaking, anyone who asks you to pay money just for their opinion is a scam. Many legitimate poetry contests do charge reading fees, but there is always some real reward. I.E. publication, cash awards, etc. This whole thing sound shady to me.

Remember all, money flows TOWARD the writer, not away.

Nope it was from writearoundtheblock.com...I had entered one of my poems when I was in 10th grade for the International Library of Poetry...I of course got published and my mom bought the book because she was so proud of me...it was $100 american...so I knew it was a scam...

I did some detective work & don't see any complaints, which is a good sign, unless they just started the site. I think the site has been around for a while though. I can't look into it more right now.

They claim that the fee is to help keep the site up. I still feel the same as before, but I'm thinking you got lucky. Let us know if they tell you, "you're in the top 8".
