My dog won't go out in the rain

Jaxper is spoiled.

He will not go out in the rain.

 

 

 

It has been raining here for a couple of days.

I take him out,  and he looks at me like I am crazy.

His nose sniffs the air and he turns around to go back inside.

I make him go outside.

He pees on the steps and runs back towards the door.

Yesterday I was detemined to make him go out.

I put on his jacket

(Yes, he has a jacket..he has several outfits and he LOVES them, he actually gets upset when I try to take them off of him) 

And he made it to the first bush, lifted his leg and ran back to the door.

I give up.

I've heard of that. Are you in any pet groups here, they can give you tips. My dog used to go & run. Didn't dwindle on & on outside if it was inclement weather. Good luck!

Oh, and my dog runs from the water hose... She wont drink out if the hose!!
Well, at least you forced him. Remember you are the leader of your little pack. Make sure he knows it & knows what you expect out of him.

When my kids were young I never made them eat anything that I wouldn't eat. That's why I started adding fruit to the rice cereal!

I say, don't expect your dog to go out and pee on a bush in the rain unless you do! ; ^)

And, did you say that you put on your dog's jacket? I'm surprised it fit!

Mine too! I have two. Goldie, a 3yr old cocker spaniel and Missi a 7yr old min. schnauser. Goldie would probably go out, she's a dutz, but Missi won't leave the porch it its raining. And when she goes out after the rain, she shakes her little feet all the way back to the door.

My older dog is scared of the lightning & knows that happens when it rains, so she doesn't like to go out then either. At least she doesn't go inside. As long as my floors stay clean I'm cool with it. She's 12 - I'm not going to try to change her now.

Lots of dogs don't like rain or snow for some reason. My dog doesn't care. She'll go out in anything except a monsoon.

Awww. I used to have a dog who wouldn't go out in the rain unless we put her raincoat and boots on her.

I was just about to say, I saw some little boots the other day at Walmart, you will have to get him some boots to go with his jacket 8)

My dog used to do that. And when we moved to Wa and had snow for the first time he wouldn't even go out on the front step! His bladder was amazing!

I take my cat for a walk on a leash and if it rains he just walks a little faster, but not a lot.

My dog is like this too. I have to put him on his leash and take him out front, so he can do his business on the bushes just off the porch. That is as far as he will go.

He will go out on his leash if it is a light rain, but just long enough to do his business and back in the house.

This is not a new problem and I guess I have to be in agreement with Rick. Some of my dogs they are made of sugar and think they will melt in the rain. I guess you could try getting one of those portable canopies and set it up so he doesn't get wet doing his thing.

I follow mine with a huge golf umbrella to keep the rain off his caot. He's not nuts about his rain coat. He also has a ton of outfits. He isn't thrilled about any of them but they sure look cute.

Rhieon and Dulce won't go out in the rain unless I go too. Mia doesn't care, she just wants to be outside!

Sorry the jacket cracked me up. We had to have an awning build so my pampered pup (a newfie ) would go out in the rain. Weird dog you can't keep him out of the pool or ven the bath tub, but rain.....no thank you.

Oscar, my chi, hates to go out in the rain too. If you take him out and put him down on the grass he will just run back into the house, he has paper pads for peeing on indoors so it is no problem. Even with his hooded jacket on, he hates the rain and we live where it rains a lot. It is great that he is tiny so we can have the pads!

aww, we used to have a dog like that, he was so scared of the rain and always hid under the sofa.
LOL....I feel your pain. I have 3 dogs who will go out if it's misting or if there are just sprinkles, but no way will they go out the door if real rain is coming down. Which was hard on us a few months back when Oklahoma got so much rain. I do have potty pads down for them and they are super good about using them, but I would still rather they go outside to do the deed. I have sweaters for my dogs and I buy them new ones for Xmas every year.
After thought....they love the snow and ice though...go figure

When I was a kid we had a dog that loved rain, she would always get loose on rainy days and just run around town for hours. Coming back soaked and muddy.

My dog hated going out in the pouring rain, but loves the snow. However, my sicko cats all go outside in the pouring rain. One of them actually goes into the pool, of her own accord! They all love to hop into the bath tub after you've showered and roll around in the wet tub. Go figure.
