What Are Baby Food Jars For?

I frequently see offers for "Baby Food Jars" on my local Freecycle list, and they get taken pretty quickly.  I am just curious... What do people use them for?

They are great to keep bobby-pins, small screws, nails, etc. in.

A lot of day cares and schools use them for crafts or "gifts" They will fill it with some kind of bath salt or something like that.

A lot of guys will use them in the garage to hold things like screws, nuts, bolts etc.

what we done is color cheap saly with food coloring and when the kids were bord we would let them make salt art(sand art) with them they use to love to do that

My dad nails the lids to the bottoms of wooden cupboards in the basement. He can then keep small items like nuts, bolts, etc. in them easy to access and close up quickly as you screw them in under the counter.

Schools use them to hold paint in.

Kids can use them for craft items, creating everything from mini snow globes (my kids and I did this for an art project years ago when they were small and we homeschooled), to tissue paper covered votives.

Some adults use them for crafts. I recall seeing Christmas trees created with empty jars stuffed with garland lights and topped with an electrical star. They're kinda neat but personally I find them a bit tacky for a house decoration.

Small nuts, screws and washers are mainly what I have used them for. You can use them for arts and crafts. I used one when i was pretending to paint water colors for my cleaning water to rinse off my paint brush. I had a cousin who used to layer different colors of sand to create paper weights with them. I am sure there are other uses for them

I used to have a bunch of them I put my dried herbs in and small crystals. Now that I don't know anyone with a baby, I have to buy little jars from Hobby Lobby LOL

Like Sara said, I've known people that kept beads in them. Speaking of buttons, we keep ours in a former pickle jar.

Around my house we have a system for them.. each kid gets one and we use it as a reward system.. once the jars are full of whatever the item is that week ( marbles, coins, small stickers for bigger items) the kids get to choose a reward that will be equal to whatever they have in the item. Works pretty goos around here..

When my daughter was younger, I bought the baby food that came in the plastic resealable containers, and I always had people begging me for those.

A woman that works with my husband, uses the jars for hot-pepper jam and sales them to her co-workers. She also asks for the jars back!

You can put small parts, screws, nuts, bolts, beads, buttons any thing you want to put in them.. I save plastic jars to put nails, screws, bolt,nuts, you could even grow plants in it.

I use to store my quaters in them. They are great to store anything small in them.

I make my own baby food and put them in the jars. Perfect size, dishwasher safe, easily sterilized if necessary. I wish some more jars would come across my Freecycle list!

i add wilton candy discs to baby food jars and can add the lid when I am done for that session. A few new discs when I am ready to sue that color again and good as new.

I don't know why but my son's school is collecting them. they must be clean, have labels removed and have the kids. We'll see.

I have a cupboard full and my husband thinks I'm crazy, but I KNOW they'll come in handy. Now that I've read these ideas, I can offer him a handful to use in the garage. :)
