Oprah's Book Club

Have you read any of the books from Oprah's Book club List? I have read a few, but not always intentionally. Sometimes they just happen to be those and look interesting o me. However, I have had some really great reads from that list. It makes me wonder how they catch her attention.

I mean can you imagine what luck an author finds when making the list? So, what do you think, is there a criteria for getting on the list? Whic ones have you read? If you aren't sure, you can check out the lists at www.oprah.com

I have read some on the list, but it was just by chance. It is not like Oprah says that it is a good book, so I have to run out and get it or anything.

I have come across a lot of them at the used book sales that I go to and they look good so I pick them up.

I've rad Cane River, The Deep End of the Ocean, Drowning Ruth, The Pilot's Wife, White Oleander, We were the Mulvaneys and a few more that I can't remember the name of. Some were good, some I found too descriptive but most have a lesson to be learned or thought to embrace.

The last choice, The Road, is a very dark work. It's very good, but it's not Cormac McCarthy's best work by any means.

I haven't read any of her picks because they're mostly Literary Fiction and I can't get into those. Plus...I just have my "set" authors I prefer to read...it take me a while to add a new name to my list. haha

I've read a couple. "While I Was Away" was the first book to have me crying my eyes out. I find her selections very emotional, and I have to be in that mindset to enjoy them.
don;t realy follow any list if she has one going that sounds like me I will read it!my tastes in books are varied plus I usualy have at least 3 going at once! a light novel,a historic book eiether novel or resurch I am interested in learing,and something to educate and keep the grey matter alert.I love womans history books as well as bio/autobio/Lately I have been readinf quite a few grammar and dstyle booss.

While Oprah does a great thing by encouraging her viewers to read, I don't really appreciate her as much as I could. She's just like every other outspoken, stubborn, good-looking woman out there. What makes her different? Is it because her skin is colored differently? She is quite glamorous, but I think that her values may be compromised sometimes... such as... she claims that big is beautiful, yet she strives to lose weight almost constantly.

I think the point is more along the lines that beauty is from within. I don't think there's anything wrong with someone wanting to lose weight to be healthy!

As far as what makes her different? She is living out her life's purpose - her passion. Something we should all do a little more of!
