Joanne, I agree. That is one reason, I come here off and on. I have a life other than gather. I don't sign in for months. Then I come back interact for a few weeks retreating agin for some weeks.

I do the same thing, Gautami. There are times when I just cant be on here that much. I say, live and let live. Free speech to all. We are all free to disagree.

It's hard to take anyone seriously when use all the colors in an article. It's like a little kid who's still so fascinated with this crayons that he has to use every single one of them all the time. I guess that fits with the ABC game mindset, though.

There are people posting away on here that make actual threats against other Gather members and get supportive comments - that's pretty lunatic to me.

I think this can be a healthy space, just like your food...choose carefully! There are the extremeists on this site and everywhere in life. I choose not to get caught up in those articles! Gather Neutrals Unite!

Actually it very frightening (excuse the pun!). Adults are brow beaten into leaving not becos they are afraid but becos they are disgusted.

Those who are trying to be nice to each and everyony one, do not even want to get to the bottom of it.

I just don't understand the complaining. What's done is done and we are all going to have to use the tools given to us at our own discretion. It is also freedom of speech, to not have to put up with other rude people on our articles. I only comment on those who connect to me and want to be friendly and seek those who publish interesting, well thought out material, and talent. If someone makes an inappropriate comment on one of my articles, I'm going to either ask them to remove it in a private message or I will delete it myself. Strangers aren't allowed into my home to trash it or harass me, why should I allow it on my articles? I have already removed one creep's inappropriate comment on one of my photos. I'm grateful for the remove button. I'd rather have the ability to take care of this myself, than go crying to Gather about it, or have it sitting there as an eye sore.

At home trash is not allowed but in a public forum when you state a opinion someone is bound to have a opposite view. At home too, we have healthy discussions, encourage each other to put forth our opinion. I do not think you would call that trash, now would you?

I am speaking of the kind of trash no one should have to put up with. Public or not, we have our personal space. If someone wants to trash another, they write another article where they attract like minded people. I'm not referring to disagreements, variations in points of view, or trying to shut someone up based on opposition. I've got opposition on my own article, and left it standing for all to read. People who can't handle opposing views aren't very mature. Those types, you ignore and leave behind, allowing them their own stench they so love to wallow in. Anyone who makes it a habit to delete opposition of a view point, only loses readership. It's their loss. There are some who like to go around and harass others, and they deserve to be blocked by those who chose to utilize that feature. It's called choice. I don't think we should be denied choice for the benefit of those who abuse.

Get a group of people together, and this stuff will happen. There are afew people here on Gather whose opinions I disagree with, but I still enjoy reading them.

Judi, the reason we cant just "be" is human insecurity. Some people cannot be happy with themselves in the face of an alternate opinion. They feel their only validation is to tear down the "opposition" or different view. People who are secure with themselves believe strongly in the live and let live ideals. So good for you. You are fair and openminded, but unfortuneately, a rare find amongst people.
