Happy Birthday -EPCOT

Did you know that Epcot turns 25 on Monday? It opened on 11/01/82. I was there for the opening day.

Did you know that Walt Disney  did not initially envision Epcot as a theme park?  He saw it as a community. This community would invite the world in and mix American ingenuity with free enterprise.

Here is a quote from Walt Disney about Epcot.
"The most exciting, by far the most important part of our Florida project, in fact the heart of everything we'll be doing in Disney World, will be our experimental, prototype city of tomorrow," he declared in a film made to reveal his dreams, just weeks before his Dec. 15, 1966, death. "We call it EPCOT."
 

I am both suprised and saddened that WDW has nothing spectular planned for Epcot's birthday. I love Epcot!

Epcot fans the Orlando Sentinel has a great article on Epcot. There are photo's and video, and even information on the Food and Wine festival, also at the Sentinel site.

There is an incerdible photo  called - "Prelude to Winter" showing a multiple exposure of the sun tracking across the sky over Epcot's Spaceship Earth, that was shot by Orlando Sentinel Senior Photographer Joe Burbank on the day of the Winter Solstice, December 21, 1991.*
