Janie decided to work this Saturday, and had to be to work at 10. So no yard sales for her, right? We found a way around that.

The St. Paul, MN Junior League was having a sale that started at 8, and not just any sale. They filled an exhibition space at the State fairgrounds. It's a good thing too, with a line as long as the one we found, any smaller space would have been a cattle call.

Someone has been to one of these before. If you don't have a sold or not-for-sale sign on something, you're likely to turn around and find it missing.
Find of the day (tie):

Pan hooks
price - $10
sold
This was at a yard sale later in the day. I thought about it, because $10 is a lot, but these things are very expensive, and I have a ton of great pans, so I did the leap.

Afritcan wood carving
Price - $4
sold
From the Junior League sale, this has a very well repaired crack. Under the bottom it says "Tsiyengui Georges" (the artist or craftsman I presume). I Googled the name and had no luck initially.
Least interesting thing we saw (tie - both at the same sale):

Videos
price - $3 - $5
no sale
And they bothered to price them all, rather that just get 3 boxes and write on the box. Or, they could have priced them all at a buck, or a quarter.

Bug light
price - don't recall
no sale
This only reminds me of a cartoon I saw once. Two people were deep in the woods. One was sitting on the ground and the other had just arrived and was handing him a six pack of beer (beer made with rice). "That's nice", says the seated man, "but I sent you to get a *BUG* Light!"
Other things we did or did not buy this weekend:

Antler candle holder
price - $3
no sale

Three Stooges talking bottle opener
price - $1
no sale
Janie didn't know I passed this up. She would have bought it.

"Silk" plants
price - cheap I hope
no sale
As an Irish woman in our building says, "They're not silk to me."

Bowl
price - $2
no sale
A tag in the middle says, "For decoration only, may poison food." (!)

Platypus with factory-attached bunny ears (?)
price - 25 cents
no sale
One of those things you can't imagine getting out of committee.
"You think we could sell what?"

Dress - $3
Mannequin - best offer
no sale
If someone buys this dress, there's going to be one very naked mannequin.

Toddler furniture
price - $5 each
no sale
I did like the one with the parasol though.

Bat plush toy
price - $3
no sale
Looking at the picture later, I wish I did buy it. That's the beauty of taking along a camera though.

Ninja Turtle monster truck
price - $3
no sale
Had to take a picture though. Ninja Turtles rule.

Dancing Turkey
price - about $17
no sale
This was new, found sitting in the grocery store later in the day.

Old cutter thingy
price - $1
sold
This is getting used, but I'm washing it by hand because the handle is still in great shape and wouldn't machine wash well.

Koss headphones
price - $2
sold
There are better headphones, but for the price they were an excellent deal.

Window art
price - $1
sold
This is headed straight for my mom's shop in Colorado. It's in mint condition.

Italian leather belt
price - $1
sold
Belts are very hard to come by at stingy-man prices. This shows lots of wear, but that adds character. There is no damage, and that's what matters.

Clothes
price - $2 each
sold
Janie found these with the tags still attached.

Snowman ornament
price - 50 cents
sold
This is what Janie and I affectionately call "annoying".
Santa hat
price - $1
sold
The world is full of cheap santa hats. When you can find a good one, buy it. That is if you'll wear a santa hat. I won't. Everything looks great on Jane.

Bell
price - $1
sold
I have a small bell collection, and this one has a great tone, due to each tine being a slightly different size.

Pasta maker
price - $4
sold
Someone was having me watch for one of these. Personally, I find it just as easy to roll out the dough and cut it with a knife, but she has trouble using a roller. It's missing the handle, so I'll let her have it for $6.

Dancing with my Dream (Vote Round Two)"
Michelle, it can be a lot of work getting the pictures together and posted, can't it? I'll make sure to check the group and feature anyone who takes the time to do it.
Grace, I was a big fan of those movies. That was a long time ago, but it had it's day.
Dena, I'm glad you enjoy the posts. By the time winter comes, I'll put together a single article with links to all our yardsale posts.
Ah, it was a bit rainy yesterday, Dina. That kept the competition at home : )
Janie gave me the "duh" look when I told her you would have bought the can opener, Kay. She certainly would have bought it.
I also love the African carved sculpture. I'm beginning to collect those, too. I love to look at the craftsmanship that goes into them.
Koss headphones! Wow! I want them!
And the kitchen "cutter thingy" is super. It reminds me of one I bought on a trip to Alaska, called an ulu. They work beautifully and are much more functional than our knives, for many things.
Nice finds, Ron!
Corina, I once found a pair of Sennheiser (sp?) headphones on a jogging path. The head bracket was broken but the phones lasted me for years. I'm looking forward to seeing how good these Koss phones are. We're getting a pretty good collection of ethnic art. We'll see how effective the cutter is; right now I'm trying to figure out where to store it.
You should have bought the bottle opener if it worked. Put it out at a party and watch peoples reactions. It would have been so worth the dollar :)
I had to laugh at the deer antler candle holder. I mean it might look nice somewhere I suppose, but certainly not in ones home.
Thanks for another great article!
Corina, I'll include a picture somehow, to show how the pot organizer transformed our kitchen.
now, about that bowl....
Amanda, I'm very fond of bells. I want a really big one some day.
Shannon, it was as good as the best church sales, so there are other ones out there just as impressive.
Meanwhile, you really made a good choice picking up the pan hook unit. After looking at pan hanging options from $150 to $1,300, I opted to make one of my own for about $40 using a bunch of S hooks, a stainless steel rack, and stainless steel chain and supportive bolts to suspend the rack from the ceiling. Hence, $10 is a steal....
Kathleen, welcome. I do a post once a week for seven or eight months out of the year. You're always welcome.
