Dear Writers,
Ah !Great News! I wish to share a Great Discovery!
I found this drawing in the Family Scrapbook while attempting for the umpteenth time to arrange items on the large pages. The title 'Election 1993' caught my attention, it is now 2007 and my country is going through another period of political turmoil and transition. As both my daughters are gifted with the artistic skill of drawing and sketching and the sketch has no name I cannot be sure which one drew this. I think probably it was the younger one
.
Children are definitely affected by what all is happening around them but for me this paper became special as it reflected the political awareness and contained the artistic expression of a child.
Then Another Discovery! This year is fast becoming a Year of Family Discoveries! Eh, Eh,
It has been finally proved ...er...by...the never ending row of files, crowded shelves of old notebooks, stacks of diaries of all sizes, shoe boxes stuffed with envelopes and cards ..and other strange paper paraphernalia, that .......
I am a Collector! Not of Bones or Butterflies as I am poles apart from the Great Scientific Observers and Recorders but of a strange rare , rough and meaningless to many, scraps of paper, torn pieces of greeting cards, odd scratches and scribblings on crumpled paper bits, faded pictures...and ...er....much much more........
I believe I do belong to this creative community of the homo sapiens as they are social living beings who need to associate with intelligent expressive and innovative kind of their own and a literary articulate environment and setup to survive, stay alive, and bring colorful constructive criticism to the readers world.
The article 'Questions for Freelance Writers' by Shannon c. inspired me to write some lines on my work as a freelance writer.
With all my collection yet, quite often I find myself searching for a topic, a subject, an idea or a striking humorous happening at home that could become a lead in for my love of this creative skill.
Some years ago I received a gift from USA , my brother in law knowing my love of art and writing sent me a large pink sketchbook. For many months I just kept looking at it, admiring its baby pink colour and the dancing pink rabbit figures on the cover.
what will I draw or paint? again the search for subjects.....one day I got my answer.
MY COLLECTION of ODDS -
everyone in the family thinks I am a most organized person ...Ha Ha they should come and have a closer look ......or ask my son, or my husband , my daughters are married and managing their own homes..and very well too.....I guess when children leave home , your ODD COLLECTION gives you company,
I also found this picture and memories begin to flash. One afternoon I saw Mahwish standing in the corridor with a typical 'I have done something look on her face', Now what is it this time? I hope to God nothing is broken! I got up and quietly reached the corridor door ignoring Mahwish deliberately lest she should start crying or screaming....
as I turned it there behold...on the wall was drawn a long line of faces with different expressions , and of course it was Mahwish and no one else.....and that was again a great moment of DISCOVERY. My child was a born artist.

That very evening I went to the local market and bought a large drawing book and black markers for her and from then on I made sure that she drew on paper and whiteboard...
we were living in a rented house.....oooppsss ....The Owners loved their house deeply and lived closeby and were frequent visitors also.
NO WRITING ON THE WALLS' was a strict rule to be followed religiously.
well, my Scrapbook has many such treasures from the sweet creative funny enjoyable and memorable childhood and my latest Discovery is
That I should just open this precious book whenever I feel I need a.....theme..a topic.....
I ...Mahwish, Mahwish, where are you dear?
A Mothers Discovery ,that daughters leave , to bring joy to another family, I hope she is keeping her scrapbook alive......
