Shealoe Hand and Body Cream
This is a cream that I make and it works well on dry to very dry skin. It aborbs well, yet also can be used at night and just slathered on, as some people that I've made it for, have had their hands or feet so dry that they're cracked and/or bleeding.
I also add another oil to this and the essential oil or oils of a persons liking or choice. This is a whipped cream, meaning it's whipped with a cake beater and the consistency is smooth and soothing.
What is Shealoe? Shealoe is made by www.terrylabs.com and it's a blend of 55% shea butter, known for it's skin-softening propertys and 45% aloe butter, also known for it's absorption and skin properties. It is a white cream, and it's great to work with. Terry Labs is usually not where one would buy this product unless you wanted a large quantity of it.
It's sold on the net at www.soapersupplies.com as is the oil(s) that I mix with it, other than an essential oil.
Recipe:
4 cups Shealoe
1 cup Rice Bran oil (or other carrier oil of choice, I've also made it with a blend of oils that are good for the skin, such as Meadowfoam seed oil, Hemp seed oil, Grapeseed oil, or another that you may like)
1/2% of preservative needs to be added to this, due to the small amount of water in the aloe part of it, as it's best to take no chances. (the percentage equals .7 mls, which can be measured in a plastic pipette, also sold at the site above) The preservative I use is Liquipar Optima and I've had good luck with it. You may also add a couple of 400 IU capsules of vitamin E to this blend.
Mix with your hand mixer till the oils are whipped with the butters nicely and the mixture resembles a fluffy cream. I had two requests for scents that friends wanted when I made my batch the other day. One was rose and I use a very little bit of Rose Absolute for hers - the scent wasn't over-powering as you wouldn't want it strong for whole body use for dry skin.
The other scent requested was Patchouli and I used that with a little bit of Ylang-Ylang II and Orange, sweet essential oils, to round out the scent - the Patchouli is still the main scent, which is what he wanted for his.
When adding the essential oils, I rewhipped them into the blends, which had been separated into different bowls for this purpose. Then I used 4 ounce glass canning jelly wide-mouthed jars to fill with the cream and gave them out. These also make great gifts for the upcoming holidays as the both the colder weather and the inside heating drys out the skin.
Any questions, please ask. I won't delete any comments.

But it cleared up their skin, worth trying anyways.
As her husband and the official tester of the family for what my wife creates, I can vouch for this working, though the other day I went out smelling (literally) like a rose as that's what she'd scented the cream with. I just figured people would think it was her. - Mark
I got two small tubs of Aloe vera cream. How/when do I use it?
I tend to get sun burn which kind of itches for days and darkens. What do I do for that?
I made a scrub with Shealoe and it worked so well! My BF's hand are soo dry and this helped a lot.
I buy my essential oils in bulk, wholesale still from when I had my website from the same suppliers, but the one above, www.soapersupplies.com, which a very nice and helpful woman, Felicia owns, is good to purchase from as well. She's having a special right now on a few essentials, I'd (for a diabetic and also for sunburn, Gautami), would use Lavender and perhaps Chamomile (German). Those are good, soothing oils.
Gautami,
Me too, the Olive Oil - we love it and it's great for the skin and hair too, as a conditioner prior to washing our hair. Your skin must be in great shape! When I was a kid, my mom always had a big aloe plant and for burns, we'd just break off a leaf and squeeze the juice out of it and the burn wouldn't blister or hurt. I'd use the aloe cream, you can whip it if you want to - even add some (this is a good oil for burns also, and irritations) some Calendula Oil - then for an essential oil, you can whip right in, as I said to Corina, Lavender is great for burns. When to use it? Daily. Protect your skin as much as possible to avoid the burns in the first place and your skin will stay hopefully burn-free. You can also use the cream (go by the way your skin feels) at night before bed. Also, if you can get ahold of some shea butter, either refined or lightly refined, (just my preference) it's good for the skin as it's got a natural SPF4, at least and I've used it and not gotten a burn, even when it's been good and hot here. Mixed with the aloe, you'd have more protection. Just a thought.
Larry, you're gorgeous the way you are .
Leslie - I sent you an email. Hopefully it's some info that you can use. I cannot use the commercial crap - I break out in hives and I'm just a mess from most any of it - allergies like crazy.
Donna, from the colder weather? I know if I don't keep on top of it, my skin will be awful too, which is why the creams are so handy.
Tina, you could also do, with the scouts, some melt and pour soap, which is VERY easy, and comes out really nice, using a couple of holiday molds and scenting the soap to match up with the cream. There's no lye involved as the soap is already made, it's in blocks, easy to cut up and would be a lot of fun (I've done it with kids before), and instead of melting it on the stove, I've got some 2 quart crock pots which have a lot less of a chance of anyone getting burned. Just a thought.
Sarina - Thanks, I'm just passing along my recipes like I did when I had my website to whoever needed them. I also taught online perfumery for free and we had a ball. That's also easy enough for the scouts to make :)
Ten unsolicited points from the world's worst connection. Merry whatever you celebrate!
