In Bakersfield this morning, a 7 year old girl was killed with her 5 year old brother accidently pushed a big screen TV onto her. I just find that so sad and horrible!
Apparently the two of them were watching TV in their Mom's bedroom when the 5 year old boy decided he wanted to play a video game. He went to plug in his game when he accidently pushed it. It then fell on his sister who was on the floor. The little girl suffered head trama and was taken to the hospital where she died.
I have kids around those ages and I can't even image the pain and how it would rip apart the family. Just thinking about it makes me teary eyed, thinking of my own children. I would never be able to watch TV on that Big Screen again, that would be the first thing to do. And that little boy has to grow up with that, knowing that he killed his big sister for the rest of his life.
That's why I stay away from the news a lot of the time. It just so happenes that this was a Bakersfield News Alert that came through to my email. Anyway, even though I don't know the family at all, pleaes keep them in your thoughts for their loss.

The mother must be beating herself up over
not being there to watch those kids and to
make sure they stayed safe from any harm.
My prayers are with that family.

About a month ago we had a four year old killed down here in Miami by a big television.
Its always a good reason to get a tv with the video hookups on the front so there is not need to turn the tv when hooking something up. and get one that is not easily tilted. I think tv straps should always be used when having big tvs like that. expecally when there are small children around. I dont think they are something that is very easy to find but they should be. Or build the tv in. anything necessary to stop possible fall overs. My kids are grown now but this is information that needs to put passed on big time!
I will def keep the family in my thoughts and prayers...
I hate reading stuff like this in the news also, but I must say it's a good reminder. There are these strap things that you can buy for T.V.'s and other furniture (like dressers) and it straps the furniture to the wall.
I just told my kid - just now - to not touch the tv ever - to come get mommy or daddy!!
I tripped over a fan in my living room and came within inches of hitting something vital, as it was my breast tissue was bruised for two months thats how hard I hit my solid wood coffee table. I know someone who fell in the bathroom and broke two ribs also another story of a man who passed out standing up using the bathroom, hit his head on the back of the toilet and died. Your home can be very dangerous.

I hope that little boy has help coping with something like this... it can very easily scar him for life. Poor kid.
The news can be really sad and depressing, though for me it's a treasure trove of novel plots. (I can't tell you how many plot bunnies came from some sort of news headline fragment.)
